Just got the software update recall for the trailer brakes (XLT) yesterday. Today my door ajar sound no longer works. Also my radio stays on after I shut the vehicle off and open the door. Additionally, lights on the dash (for the odometer, etc.) also activate too early and stay on too long. I have an appt with the dealer on Monday. Can't be sure it is related to the recall fix, but it certainly seems so.

Anyone experience these issues after getting the recall update? Or maybe independently of that?

Hello! Send us a private message with your VIN and the name and location of your local Ford dealer. I’d be happy to see what I can do to assist with this electrical concern on your Maverick. Thanks!

Maybe you can help me too.

I bought a new truck off the dealer's lot in May 2021. The truck did not come with the trailer brake controller installed but it had the class 4 hitch, so it was wired for it, and the dealer recommended that I get it, which I needed to do as I intend to pull a trailer.

In June of 2021 I used my FordPass points to buy a new trailer brake controller from another Ford dealer (online) which I installed myself (it just plugs in so it took all of about 5 minutes).

Then in July 2021 I paid another (local) Ford dealer to "turn it on" in software, and it seemed to work - in the sense that it would respond to the gain control pushbuttons by displaying the gain setting and a message "trailer disconnected" or something like that. But I didn't pull anything with the truck last year, but I intend to pull a camper trailer with it this summer.

But then early last month I came across documentation from the NHTSA and from Ford regarding safety recall 22S17, which describes a problem (apparently due to faulty software) whereby the trailer brake controller may fail to operate the trailer brakes, increasing the risk of an accident.

I never received a recall notice (nor does the recall show up under my VIN), apparently only because the truck did not come from the factory with the brake controller installed.

But when I compared my "as built" data with that of other Ford truck owners who did get the recall notice, I found that many of us had the same hardware i.e. MU5T-19J294-DG (F113) and the same (apparently defective, according to the documentation) software MU5T-19J297-DF (F188).

Being that my trailer relay module apparently had the defective software, I asked the dealer who did the software part of the installation if he would update the software as per the safety recall, and he agreed. But here's the problem: something apparently went wrong when during the update procedure and now the TRM is completely dead; it's "bricked," and the dealer refuses to fix it. The dealer said "that's it, I'm done, I'm not touching it."

So I have new truck with only 5,000 miles on it, into which was installed a new Ford trailer brake controller assembly, both of which are supposed to be under warranty and a dealer did something wrong trying to update the software, now it doesn't work at all and the dealer who bricked it tells me the only solution is to pay him another $350 to install a new trailer brake controller assembly.

Is Ford going to stand behind their products and help me out here by honoring the warranty or do I have to go pound sand?

Thank you. The dealer (Brighton Ford in Colorado) did a factory reset. Crossing my fingers that this solved the problem (so far, so good). If it does not, I will definitely contact you.

I am having issues after the recall update as well, right now I'm sitting in my truck and the center console screen will not come on but radio is still playing. Also can no longer save navigation favorites, they disappear as soon as I turn off the truck.
