My truck TPMS system also reads low by 4-5 lbs. There is no way to calibrate it that I am aware of.

The truck says 35 psi on the front and rear. I have exactly 35 psi with 3 different gauges. But the display says 39 psi front, and 38 psi rear. So what does Ford want ? What the display shows or what a gauge shows ? All pressures checked cold. And when checked hot, same difference in pressure.
Thanks
Charlie
Charlie,
This question was also answered on the Beechtalk forum, if that is any help.
35 psi Cold is the book value but that does not take into account daytime temperature differentials, track temperature, driving conditions or present tire wear which would all affect optimal tire pressures needed. (according to NASCAR)

An accuracy verified tire gauge is the most accurate measurement, most likely.

Ford "wants" 35 psi cold, per the driver's side door jamb label.

If you trust your gauges more than the dash display, then you are good. Personally my dash display only varies 1 psi or less compared to any gauge I've used.
Yep...my dash...Ford app on the phone..and gauge read exactly the same on my Mav.

I generally check and fill my tires at Costco where air is [still] free. Their air pumps default BACK to 35 psi after a few moments. Not too long ago they put another label on their pump that says something like your tire pressure label is COLD pressure, and if you drove more than 2 miles to get here, your tires are HOT. Add 4 psi to the cold rating. So I fill mine to 39.

i've had this question lots in my 2 months in the mav, they delivered it with about 42 PSI in the tires, i never adjusted them. The Ford app says 36 PSI is optimal, so i'll need to work on that.

When my Mav was delivered new it was about that high.
My Mav was delivered with 44 psi which is what the factory sets it at. The dealer didn't catch it during the pre delivery inspection [PDI] It only took me less than a mile of driving home in my new truck to realize something was not right.

Because of the ride quality or looking at the TPMS ?

There is no harm in running higher pressure up to the maximum the tire is rated for. Most tires are rated for at least 40psi. The ride may be a bit firmer. I run all my vehicles slightly higher than the recommended pressure.

In addition, I've read that higher pressure (within reason) helps the tires split the water on rainy roads better.

Police vehicles come with the same sticker on the door jamb as yours.

Ask them (or motor-pool supervisor) what they inflate to. Generally, it's on the high side, close to max. pressure on the tire sidewall. They want performance over comfort.

RE: Realized tp was off? = I had a 2022 EB Lariat so I was familiar and pleased with the ride. So when I drove my new 2024 hybrid Lariat off the lot, the seat of my pants feel said something wasn't right. I don't fuss with the setting while I drive, I waited until I got home and used my digital pressure gauge. The difference in ride between tires with 35psi and 44 psi is huge.

Am crazy about tire pressure, I check it often, I've had 2 Mavericks, my 22 XLT was delivered to me with 40psi and the ride home was stiff, I took 5lbs out of all the tires same day and very surprising difference, the kid that did the PDI never checked the tires its one off the first things on his list of things to check, my 25 Lariat was on the money. I use a quality gauge not a pencil gauge both trucks were on the money with the cluster reading.
Its amazing how the tire pressure changes with the seasons, Heat/Cold changes pressure, so you must check at least 4 times a year. A pound or 2 wont make much a difference 5lbs will, its hard to get all tires the same and keep it the same but I do it. for you guy that don't know PDI is Pre-Delivery Inspection, when the vehicle comes in the tech is given a check list with all the items that need to be checked like oil, tires, set clock, coolant, check lugs, clear all faults, etc. check list is returned to dispatcher/service adviser/manager. They don't use their best guys for this job and screw up often.
