My Maverick has been pretty reliable but I can't ignore all the issues people have had as they accumulate miles or the endless stream of recalls. Not to mention, how easily these trucks seem to get totalled from what should have been minor accidents. I've also had occasion to find the bed length confining lately and I miss being able to plow my own driveway. So, I'm throwing in the towel.

On Saturday, my 15K-mile 2022 Maverick XLT Lux will be traded in on a 56K-mile 2019 Ranger XLT extended cab that was ordered with all the goodies (and then some) that the Maverick has. I was able to strike a deal that required making up only a $1677 difference in the OTD bottom line. I'm happy with that.

The concept was brilliant and the design was perfect for the niche it occupied. It's too bad Ford didn't take a bit more time to give it the polish and durability it deserved.

I've had my Maverick for 3 years and this is my conclusion as well.

Enjoy the Ranger!

I have owned my 22 Lariat EB for 3 years now. I have had only a few recalls and all but one was a software update. The hardware recall was the airbag. My only complaint was the the lousy Ford battery and I replaced it with an AGM Interstate battery.

It is too early to rate the durability of the Maverick. However, I do recommend the Maverick to all my family and friends. There is a strong need for a compact pick-up in today's market.

It all came down to the dinero for me. I'm on a tight budget and I hope the Maverick will be a reliable truck for me. I was out and about today, and was parked by a newer Ranger. I must admit they're a fine looking truck. Still, I felt no shame driving off in my Cactus Gray. My 2002 Ranger has nailed a deer and smashed head on into a wall of earth (black ice fun) and it still lives! I've sure questioned my buying a new vehicle (insurance and registration costs are eye openers) and can understand you buying a loaded lower mileage Ranger. Best of luck with it! 👍

Getting rid of a truck because of issues that other people are having but not yourself?

Enjoy your Ranger.
I will, I'm sure. You may want to reread the post, though. It was the combination of the issues experienced by people who've accumulated more miles than me (i.e., my future, potentially) AND things like the bed length and the propensity for total loss in relatively minor accidents. Oh, and I also mentioned a snow plow.

As for recalls, I've been through the fuel tank, side curtain airbags, multiple software updates, and the still unknown rear camera fix.

Enjoy your Maverick. Seriously. I wish you the best of luck with it.

Trading in a maverick with 15k miles for an 2019 ranger with more miles, I would have expected the dealer to cough up more cash on the side.

As for the total loss, that's what insurance is for. So much equity in the 22/23 maybe 24 mavericks. Anybody who hits me your insurance company is going to hate your guts.

I noticed that Kelly's Blue Book listed 8 recalls on 2019 Ford Ranger. Also Kelly's Blue Book says your Maverick was worth about $2000 more than the Ranger.

The 19 Ranger sounds expensive especially at 56k miles and your 22 Maverick only has 15k miles. Entry level loaner Rangers would be around low $30s. I have seen F-150 STX for high $30s and XLT for mid $40s. Those F-150 are 2k-4k mile loaners with 4WD.

I also find myself looking at Rangers when walking the lots. I think Ford really dropped the ball by not offering the SuperCab/6.5' bed in the latest G6 update (at least not in the US).

Good looking truck. HRG

I understand the OP's misgivings. I owned a 20 Ranger and it was a nice truck but I didn't need the bed space and it was still bigger than I wanted so I sold it when I ordered my first Maverick. Don't remember if had any recalls but I only owned it about 8 months.

We can all justify what we buy or don't buy and I am sure the OP did the right thing for him. If I lose confidence in my Maverick it will be gone the next day and I will be driving a Ridgeline or a Santa Crus unless someone else is making a small pickup I like better. I no longer have a lot of product loyalty so the vehicle I buy has to stand on its own. I just ordered a 25 Maverick and it will be my 4th so still a happy camper.

Good luck with your Ranger ,I have had two of them . Make sure your transmisson was replaced or get an extended warranty as you are at the end of the power train warranty. The CDF drum is defective and is a 6K-7K rebuild

To each their own. Personally, I wouldn't use any truck less than a Super Duty for plowing. An old Grizzly would be better suited!
