The backup camera is useless when the tailgate is down. Is there a solution?

All cool toyz don’t get me wrong. But the bulk of these, ‘features’ or options just drive our vehicles prices up.
They are nice, I like my heated seats and steering wheel.

And now I’m more spoiled.

I have the Wolfbox mirror cam and mounted the backup cam inside against the back window. It's only blocked if the Tonneau is "flipped" up for a load. Helps with the headrests blocking my rear view too.

Err as you were, Wimps ! Yeah that’s it !

Soon we’ll all have auto drive. And loose even more skills.
I am seeing, MOST People don't know how to do the following... As it is NOW... :(

Wisconsin DOT.....

The term “drive” is defined in Wis. Stat. § 346.63(3)(a), which reads: “Drive” means the exercise of physical control over the speed and direction of a motor vehicle while it is in motion.

The term “operate” is defined in Wis. Stat. § 346.63(3)(b), which reads: “‘Operate’” means the physical manipulation or activation of any of the controls of a motor vehicle necessary to put it in motion.” 🤔

Again, if only I had known before I bought my 2025 Maverick Lariat.

Is there a Ford OEM or aftermarket auxiliary backup camera for use when the tailgate is down? Every time I go to the transfer station!
I let my wife stand in the back and watch out for me! So far it’s working perfectly but not sure how it’s going to work in the rain 😂

Every truck I've owned has had an obstructed view out the back. Tool box, headache rack, topper with no windows, etc. In fact, I've removed the rearview on almost every truck I've owned since they're effectively useless with an obstructed view, and they aren't required by law on trucks anyway.

I just got those stick-on convex blind spot mirrors. With those, my blind spot is basically a "V" extending about 10 feet behind the vehicle. I just look at the mirrors, and when I get close to whatever I'm backing up against, the ole "GOAL" (Get Out And Look).

Spring, 1969………
Field 3, Eglin AFB, Fl……….
I’m backing up a 6x to hook up to a TRC/97 radio on wheels.
Wasn’t quite sure where I’m aiming. So I set the hand throttle to hold idle in reverse, jump out, run back to check things. Just then, Capt Kirkpatrick walks up.
Quick salute, turn back to the truck.
“Keep coming, you’re doing fine”, waving my hand.
”Carry on, Sergeant”, returning my salute.
“Yes, sir. Have a good one”.
He disappeared around the corner. I jumped back in just in time.
As the man said. “Get out and look”.

How did we manage before....
If only they could possibly put some reflective type of surface, perhaps made from glass, onto some extrusions that could be attached and sticking out on the driver's and passenger's side doors, we just might be able to look back and see something behind us.

I wonder if someone can design something like that? 🤔

You had your 10 year old son stand off to the left rear corner of the tailgate, in clear view of the drivers side exterior mirror.... and he waved you on' '' Comon' bak, comon' bak, comon' bak .... <crunch>... oh crap you went too far Dad.... "

Severe BUYERS REMORSE. Your journey has just begun. Fog lights and backup camera, what is next?

Buyer's remorse is
the feeling of regret, guilt, or anxiety after making a purchase, often related to big-ticket items like homes or cars, stemming from cognitive dissonance (mind clashes) about the decision, overspending, or unmet expectations. To handle it, objectively reassess the purchase, recall your original reasons, evaluate its benefits, and consider returning or reselling if truly regrettable; for prevention, research thoroughly, create a budget, ask a trusted friend, and avoid impulse buys.
If I had only known.......

On my Lariat the blind spot/tow view/360 overhead cameras take up the slack for me

If I have a load that extends more than a few feet past the bed I hook up my 8x5 landscape trailer. I use my trailer frequently. Two of the more impressive little things I find on the Maverick is I can quite easily back up the Maverick to my trailer tongue to within 1/2 to 1 inch of the ball, every time. The screen "automatically reduces" to a close-up as you get closer to the hitch ball. Saw a neighbor with tailgate DOWN and forgot, drove into his garage...expensive repair to replace tailgate and garage door...several thousand when he closed garage door.

The second feature still blows my mind. First time I hooked up my trailer lights to the Maverick, I returned to the front seat to see a message on the screen that informed me that "the left taillight of my trailer was out"....sure enough it was.

...don't forget the smoke...
...and seriously, my 2008 Ridgeline was the first extended cab truck I'd ever had. My default backup view for trailering before that was to put the tailgate down and twist around to look back. It was a pain in the Ridgeline, because the top of the tailgate wasn't even visible that way when it was up.

I put an Oru camper on my Mav, and also want full-time rearview for it, withor without the boat. I bought:

https://www.auto-vox.com/products/m...1&_sid=574b24520&_ss=r&variant=46108082766046

...along with the $20 solar panel.

The WolfBox stuff is fantastic, but also eyewateringly expensive. 1080p rearview-only is fine for my needs.

No NOooze no no no,
Aww I give up.

We did everyfuckingthing with our trucks. I’ve hooked up trailers from 4’x6’ single axles to 52 foot goose necks.

Only dented one license plate and it was an improvement.

Here comes the No’s
No A/C
No power windows,
No Automatic trannies. Hey we didn’t have males that dressed like females,
Tranny-Transmission.

And no camera’s.
I never hit anything,

We’re all turning into pu,
Err as you were, Wimps ! Yeah that’s it !

I can feel the loss of neck movement range BECAUSE of my back up camera,
I shit you not.

Ok rants over.

Hooking up trailers to an M series or to a Hum V with full nuclear curtains in place.
Made easy with Pinter hooks and a spotter.
We didn’t need no stinkin’ back up cameras.
Yup. Deuce and a half with full canvas! mirrors! My 51 GMC only had a driver side mirror. Not sure where the other one went. Never hit anything. Truckers hardly have any view except down the sides. Most do just fine without a camera. 360 degree camera's now??? I see BIG time increase in traffic accidents, not a decrease. Just keep staring at all those camera's and only look up if you need to see the iphone! Anyone here looking at the road?
