How about a camera that can be adjusted to view angle?... like pan and zoom. Kind of like adjusting your side view mirrors.
On my Lariat there is a touch pad with a "+" in the upper left corner of the screen which changes the camera angle to look down at the rear bumper and hitch, with black dotted line visible to allow trailer connection. Also works well during parallel parking to see exactly where the car behind is.

They have enough dang sensors on that truck to have an automatic "hook up the Trailer" button = park truck 30 ft in front of trailer, let go of steering wheel, push button. Buy a radio chip jack for trailer not even have to lower jack.

Camera works great for hitching a trailer/camper. I can zoom in and line the ball up perfectly. Once hitched my camper has it's own backup camera. You point the thing at the ground it's going to show the ground. Don't know why you'd expect something else.
