How many potential buyers actually test drove both engines before their order? During test drive of the Hybrid, I felt the truck was ok on acceleration. It is a hybrid that is heavy, so a bit of a slow dog especially during freeway on ramp. The Ecoboost was very different with the turbo to move along the little 4 cylinder motor. I am a bit untrustworthy of the mileage range calculated on the Hybrid. I opted for the very functional Ecoboost. I currently drive a real hybrid Prius, Yes not fast, but sips the fuel. I see the hybrid as a city truck. Kudos for Ford to enter the market. If the factory can deliver quality trucks, during this time, everyone wins!

It really depends upon what you're looking for. I need a small truck or something with external storage for rubbish and yard waste. The kids get upset when I haul such things in the hatchback. I was trying to decide what used truck to buy before the used priced jumped and then I saw the Maverick. I'm in it for the utility and affordability. I had planned the hybrid XL with minimal options but my wife didn't like the wheels and thought I should aim a little higher. So I went with the Hybrid xlt with Luxury and c360 packages. I couldn't justify to myself spending more money now only to spend more with each tank of gas. My current car is front wheel drive and I haven't had any problem in the last 30+ years without 4 wheel drive. I did test drive a different ford hybrid which was certainly fit for purpose.

How about almost NONE as a there were no Mavericks to do a test drive until very recently. I also think that only a few dealerships will have both an EcoBoost and a Hybrid for test drives even now.

The video reviews posted on October 5th by many auto reviewers were the first impressions as to how both the Hybrid and EcoBoost performs.

I have experienced no such lag or "slow dog" with my Maverick Hybrid. Just yesterday I accelerated onto a freeway via the on ramp going up a steep grade and got to 75 MPH well before I had to merge. This was even in "ECO" drive mode.

A real hybrid Prius? Scoreboarding us on our home field?

Mav gets better mileage. And the combo engine/hybrid has a long reliability from the old Escape hybrid cabs hitting 300K.

Standard Hybrid is what makes this unique.

^^ This. ^^ I am baffled everytime someone suggests the hybrid is slow. It has plenty of power for normal driving, even in ECO.

I have driven both. Initially an EB, and I now own the Hybrid. I cannot say for certain I floored the EB completely but I did get on it pretty good. I would love to put my Hybrid in Sport mode (yes, it makes a BIG difference) against the EB in a short race. Say 1/8th mile. I think it would be VERY close. Had the hybrid up to 107 pretty quick before I had to back off.

In video review testing, the EB only beats 0-60 over the Hybrid generally less than a half second. I have the EB because I need AWD. But I would buy an AWD Hybrid in a heartbeat. Even though with the added AWD weight, it would be even slower than the FWD Hybrid. All reports of everyone credible is that the Maverick Hybrid is quite peppy and capable.

Not really. I've watched just about every video on the Maverick. The quickest 0-60 mph for a hybrid I've seen is 7.4 secs. The quickest for an Ecoboost is 6.2 secs.

Not putting down the hybrid by any means. 7.4 secs is not slow to me. My 2012 Focus hatchback with a DCT was 7.6 secs. Never felt it was underpowered. On the interstate I could pass cars uphill easily. My 2018 Escape S FWD has the 2.5L and it is about 9 secs. So that electric motor in the hybrid really gives the 2.5L a boost in power.

This Motortrend review is the only direct acceleration comp I've seen, and they have the EB a half second faster in the quarter mile but interestingly the hybrid is moving faster at a quarter mile because the hybrid is accelerating faster 40-80mph.

OP characterizes the hybrid as a "slow dog", yet drives a vehicle that is objectively much slower - huh? I didn't buy the hybrid to drag race and I've never felt the need for more power in vehicles objectively slower (ie. virtually everything I've ever owned, which may include my current jetta), so I'm pretty certain I won't have an issue with the power.

I wouldnt own a FWD truck so the hybrid is out for me right now. I am also leery of electrical issues with the hybrid down the road. However I do like the idea of a plug in hybrid, maybe they will do that in AWD down the road and push me to try one. Looks like you cant even get the escape in PHEV and AWD yet so must be some reason, assuming battery takes up too much space?

I guess if someone is coming from some sedan or coupe with a 250ho or better V6 from before everything switched over to turbo 4 cylinders then the Hybrid Maverick may seem a bit pepless.

My last vehicle was a 2005 Impala with a 3.4 V6 with 180hp stock but probably down to 140 by the time it was retired. That car was plenty powerful enough for all the stuff people seem to get worried about, and the Hybrid Maverick far surpasses it.

End of the day, I think some people are just a combination of spoiled and really bad at knowing what they actually do on a daily drive.
