Fellow Mav owners, I recently called customer service re: the unequal tailgate cables on almost all Mavericks.
I was told that the more reports there are, the more likely a fix will be addressed.

Issue: Driverside taut.........passenger's 🤏 less taut.
Sit down on the tailgate or put weight on it, they both become tight = non-issue.

I think every truck I have owned this has been the case and I have never had a problem.

Every F150 ever made has this problem & they did nothing about it.
Doubt they will do anything with Maverick

Was about to say the same. I had trucks that had those two pieces of flat stock on each side rather than cables, and same deal. One would be slightly loose unless you sat on the tailgate or otherwise put weight on it.

Ford explained this in a memo...at least for Texas (San Antonio) owners. The reason is, when the Spurs win a playoff game, the hometown crowd goes crazy driving and honking. The reason one is tight and the second one is loose, when the big Tortas sit on the tailgate to celebrate, if the tight one snaps first...it gives them a split second before the second one snaps to know they are "going down" with the tailgate. This goes for Mavericks and F-150s. Hell...throw in F-250s also.

maybe the MTC 2027 Carlisle round-up can add a tailgate cable trading section.

My lazy driver side cable makes my hard working passenger side cable do all the menial labor. But when the pressures on...the driver side cable does answer the call.

In 22&23 some dealers would replace cables with new ordered ones some times they would be the same length and sometimes the replacement set could be compared to the original set and using a matched pair (maybe?). Some with the problem custom made replacement cables or older strap style.

back in the 70's, my dads F250 Hi-Boy never worried about cable straps...they had two piece metal straps that were ALWAYS the same length all.the.time.

Folding them "upward" to take them off prior to tail gate removal.
