Anybody get this installed? Is it useful?

I bought mine from Amazon for less than the Ford place. Paid the dealership to install since I didn’t have the tools to do it. Is it useful? That depends on if you use your tailgate a lot and do a lot of catching it as it falls open. It’s an inexpensive mod that takes about 15 minutes to install if you have the right tools. I like it as it gives my Mav a bit of sophistication and elegance.

Im in California so i dont like to show off my 1 finger strength. Id rather just open and forget. Plus i got the cheapest trim so i spoiled myself with the assist.

Yes! Very worth the modest price.
If I'm opening my tailgate, I already have at least one hand full.
Before installing, having that tailgate slam down was obnoxious (to me). Plus, you have to make sure no little kids are around, if you don't have a hand available to guide it down! Good luck

Very worthwhile to me.

As someone else noted, it wasn’t a matter of not being strong enough to manage the talgate without it — it’s just easier if you have your hands full juggling boxes or bags or other stuff to put in the bed.

As noted, though, do not buy it from Ford — exact same Dee Zee Taligate Assist part is available for much less on Amazon.

Yes, it was one of the first things I did. Is it useful??? Not particularly except it gives you a more elegant tailgate open. Certainly not as useful as a powered closing but it’s still cool watching it open.

I wondered about the little damper cylinder and decided to wait until my truck arrived a week ago. When I lowered the tailgate I was surprised how light it is. I actually went and checked it with a magnet as I thought it might be aluminum, but no, it is steel. I thought perhaps I somehow got stronger in my old age, and I checked the tailgate on my 97 Ranger which was sitting right next to it. Nope, despite the Ranger tailgate being several inches shorter and slightly narrower, it still weighs a ton, especially compared to the Maverick. Glad it works for if needed.

Keeps the tailgate from slamming down and stressing the cable restraints. I like it.

I put one on my wife's new maverick this week. We like it mostly for opening it when you have your hands full. You can just pull the tailgate handle and it lowers itself. I put on the DeeZee one. Got it from RealTruck.
