I do not have my mav yet. Trying to figure out space for subwoofer. Already have dimensions for under the rear seat and have box specs for Ct Sounds bio, hydro, and tropo 8. I am wondering if a 13" high by 6" depth box will fit behind rear seat?

It is very tough to fit anything behind the seat itself besides a slim mount like the kicker HS10. Or something similar. Easiest way to know for sure is to mock one up out of cardboard and put it behind there to see if it fits. The problem is the clearance at the top portion of back seat. It’s very narrow. It also depends on your bass needs and expectations. The under seat or slim like the hs10 or equivalent work fine and can be mounted to the amp rack that Ford uses for B/O if you are XLT or lower. I did like a lot of others and used the storage under the seat and made a custom box. It’s not ground shattering bass but a definite improvement on my XLT. If money is no option JL makes a stealth box for $799 now that would require an amp and it goes under the passenger back storage area. There are also some custom boxes online for under seat also from Ground Shaker. Idk if it will fit but I was looking at the Rockford RS10 12” that is a super slim box but no one has confirmed from any of my research if that box fits back there. Let us know what you come up with.

This is one of the smallest boxes I have seen requiring a separate amp and even it wouldn’t fit behind the seat but I wanted it in the storage compartment anyway. I don’t think you are going to have much luck searching that option.

Ok ok. Soooo my under seat box Designs will have to work! I came across a Memphis loaded shallow 8 that was 5.9" deep. Wishful thinking. I am going exact specs box for a Ct Sounds bio, tropo, or hydro 8". Same specs. Thanks for chiming in!

I built a fiberglass box behind the rear seat, ended up being 1.1 cubic feet. It fits a very low-profile Pioneer 12" sub made for shallow enclosures.

There are a ton more photos and a write-up of the process in my build thread (or click here for page 4 to skip directly to the enclosure build).

Some thoughts -

It's possible in fiberglass with a very shallow woofer. If a person wanted to do it with wood, it would be a hell of a pain to build it. And the end result would have a lower internal volume due to the wood thickness. At that point, the same size enclosure under the seat bottom would be a better idea.

Based on what it sounds like, and how well the sub blends in with the other speakers, I suspect that locating the sub on the rear wall works extremely well with the vehicle's transfer function and cabin gain. No idea if it's any different/better than the same sub would be if it were located under the seat bottom though.

A Lariat has more stuff on the rear wall which would make an enclosure in that space infeasible.

I'm just going with a mdf .38cuft under seat

this box is .35ft3:
https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/adding-8-sub-amp-to-b-o.21543/

I would probably buy a Sound Decisions box. I think they're close to .5ft3 and you don't have to cut up the plastic tub like I did.
I was just wondering if a box fit behind but no for easy. I have found your posts. Inspired me so much. And I'm keeping it diy. I decided on 14Ă—11Ă—6 1/2" mdf with a second face for a Total 6.5" depth. .38cuft. Sub is .07cuft for bio 8, .02 for hydro and .01 for bracing. Going to cut top hole big enough to fit my grille and round off inner edges. I also splurged and purchased SMD wire hookups. Rolling Herculiner on boxes. Building 2 just in case 1 doesn't do the trick, but probably not going to be a problem. Will just sell the 2nd if needed.

Very nice. I can say that the small kicker box has very much exceeded my expectation. I am very surprised by how nice it sounds and very clean. I suspect that like mentioned above the cabin works well with a small sub in the passenger side under the seat.

The “ground shaker mav box is nice , they have a 8” or10” and for either storage side for the hybrid guys who need drivers side.if i remember about .46 cu. Ft.

It is possible if you plan very carefully. This works out to .6 cubic feet. I have been experimenting with sealed and ported and actually sounds pretty good either way.

No doubt they are nice but the cost is just way too much for me. It's costing me $145 to build 2 sealed boxes exact specs for ct sounds bio, hydro, or tropo 8. Including SMD terminals, 12g ofc, and herculiner coated. I am handy and will make a solid box. Probably gonna be happy with 1 sub. But a 2nd box is always there if needed
