I have a 2023 Ford Maverick XLT, EcoBoost, AWD, and 4k towing. Purchased in December 2022.

I assume that the warranty expired last December (3 years, right?).

I didn’t pay attention to the start/stop feature for many months until I realized it no longer worked. I understand that the battery may be weak now, even though it’s only three years old. Isn’t a car battery supposed to last about five years?

What is the main cause of a weak battery? I’ve done a lot of short trips around the city in my Maverick, but sometimes I drive much farther—about 10 to 20 miles each way. Once in a while, I even drive 80 miles each way. I would think that driving at least 10 miles or more should fully charge the battery.

Could I have an issue with the alternator? I don’t understand why the battery is weak when I don’t have any problems starting the engine. Should I take my Maverick to the Ford dealer and have them diagnose the battery & Start/Stop? Is there a TSB or special warranty that will cover the cost of repairs or battery replacement? Yes, I know all about the "pro-rated" warranty on the battery. I think Ford should be responsible for the issues. I am not a fan of taking any vehicles to the "stealerships".

Modern vehicles are much harder on the 12v batteries, just seems to be the norm. I'm not aware of any battery recalls, or TSBs or warranties for 23 EB Mavericks related to 12v batteries.

You can always find out by using the Fordpass app, or by going to the Ford Recall by VIN page. Just enter your trucks VIN and any recalls or customer satisfaction programs will show up. TSBs don't give extended warranties, they are just common issues dealers are made aware of by Ford.

I wish I had that problem, I turn that oh so stupid start/stop off every time on preflight.
I will not let my Turbo spin down without oil pressure.

Have you received a recall notice for recall 25S02? 2022-2023 Mavericks included in a 12V battery recall.

I just had this recall performed on my 2022 EB the other week and got a brand new AGM battery on Ford's dime 🤑

So did I even though the original battery was still good. Even with a new battery the A.S.S feature is still erratic and mostly irritating!

I turn mine off. What it's for I have no idea? If it's to save fuel it doesn't save much. If it's about pollution control, I don't care enough about the planet to keep it on.

I usually turn it off but my brain never got trained to do that all the time! Then I get surprised when it actually works!!

It makes a recordable difference in big city air quality. ONLY if a large percentage of cars do it.
It saves fuel but only noticeable if you look at the big picture.

It eats starters some what,
Eats batteries,
Can cook a Turbo, Most don’t know that a turbo may still be spinning above 10, 20 or 30,000 RPM’s when the motor shuts down.
Oil pressure drops to zero.

Cutting coolant water flow causes the heads to heat up instantly. This normally happens when you park.
BUT at a light means in a minute you’re going to hit the gas and ask for power.
Takes time for the oil to do its primary job, and that’s to disperse heat.
Thermal regulation goes out the window in stop and go traffic.

Your engine needs to Idle in traffic without interruptions.

Aluminum heads, can you say warp ?
May take a hundred fifty or even two hundred thousand miles.
Then someone will say, “That’s acceptable”
My Toyota went 528,000 trouble free miles without stop/start.

This is all my not so humble opinion.
Ignore me because I don’t know crap about engines right !

Anyone remember common sense ?
It’s not so common anymore.

As far as my 24 ecoboost goes, start stop does what the book says. Extreme hot or much below freezing it does not try to operate. It was designed that way. Max heat or ac same thing. Battery is fine, agm , but fine. I use a ford battery charger, jumper, tester. Capable of giving warranty codes. Like the actual ford units.

Sometimes jumping in a dumpster is worth it! New clamps. Fixed.

As far as the stop start stuff....I bought it like that so I knew. It can be a pain, but eh....I knew it had that.

I don’t think it works when the heated seats are on. I turn it off when I realize it’s working.

It works when no high demand, including electric, are going on. Or extreme hot/cold.

Three years on a battery can be their normal expected lifetime, but a weak battery isn't the only condition that will prevent stop/start from stopping the engine.

As others noted, stop/start only works when high load usage isn't active to prevent you from not getting the vehicle restarted.

There are a number of scenarios in the owners manual that will describe those conditions, and it may be that one of those is what is preventing stop/start.

Many others would view your problem as a blessing, as the most sought after issue with stop/start is how to eliminate it.

My 24 EB has acted the same way since new and with a replacement battery. If the Mav isn't driven enough or sets for a weekend, the battery's state of charge drops below the level needed for the Auto Stop to work and mine will not recharge it enough to operate even after a 250 mile trip. I've had the dealer look at it, they say everything is good and the battery is 100%. I can trickle charge it overnight and it will work until the next idle day.

I guess I don't need to buy a $100 Auto Stop defeat device to get rid of it. The only problem is eventually the 90 min. the 12 power stays on after shutting down also goes away and I'd like it on for my amateur radio.

My 22 Escape was the same way. Since I mostly teleworked, it'd only be driven once or twice a week, so auto stop/start NEVER worked.
