Also, space saver spare should not be driven over 50 mph or your putting your vehicle and life in danger
But please be advised that the tire won't burst if you hit 51mph. Tires, like many automotive systems, are built with plenty of safety margin. They just don't want you to use any of it.

On a side note, I've used the spare on every vehicle I've ever owned at least once. I've had punctures in all positions. Nothing like having a chunk of rebar puncture a steer tire while towing an enclosed car hauler.

Rear tire punctures are less dramatic but more frequent. I suspect this is because the front tires kick up debris (like nails or screws) and the rear tires run it over before it has a chance to fall back down.

I drive with both hands on the wheel at all times to "catch" the vehicle should I puncture another steer tire. You bet that a Maverick I get will have the full-size spare option.

Full size spare will most likely be a steel wheel and tire from the XL standard issue. No way they are giving a nice black aluminum wheel and AT tire that matches my FX4 for only $115.
I have a standard issue, robust spare in my Fiesta ST which is neither a space saver nor a copy of the primary wheels, black steel rim, different wheel diameter and sidewall height, same overall diameter!

I was planning to purchase the "full size spare" so I could not only be safer when I get a flat, but also so I could rotate all 5 tires (instead of the typical 4 tire rotation). I was under the impression that this (5 tire rotation) is the recommended use of a full size spare, because it not only keeps the tread similar (to avoid problems when using it as a spare tire), but it also extends the life of the tires by 125%.

This thread, however, seems to indicate that Ford might not actually mount the full size spare on the same wheel/rim as the other four. That seems counterproductive to me, as it'd require re-mounting two tires during every tire rotation (or having one wheel/rim not match the others). I hadn't even considered that they'd do that, and if so it doesn't seem worth purchasing a full size spare.

Am I understanding this correctly? How do people typically use full size spares?

If you're buying the XL with the steelies, you're golden and will be able to add it into the rotation; At least from what I've seen posted from the Chicago Auto Show. If you're going with XLT or Lariat however, it wont come on any of the upgraded wheels. I'm sure you could always source an extra wheel and store it where the current spare is stored.

For me a full size spare wasn't on the list right now. Once I take delivery I'll see if one of the alloy wheels will fit in that spot, and if so, I'll find an XLT wheel, or if I upgrade in the future I'll just buy 5.

On my Ford Ranger the spare is the same tire, but using just a black painted steel wheel. I ordered a matching wheel for $150 from a 3rd party and then paid $50 for a factory TPMS. I'll likely end up doing the same for the Maverick.

Yeah the spare is a steelie, not matching

I got an XL and didn't add the spare option, going to go ahead and order 5 aftermarket wheels and tires shortly after I get it and have a 5 wheel rotation going

It is rare that any manufacturer includes a matching wheel. Usually a steel wheel. With so many tires being directional these days, you can’t do a 5 tire rotation. Having said that, standard issue tires are rarely directional.

Thanks for the help and advice, I guess I’ll go back to my usual four tire rotation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

After getting the spare from under the bed you may change your mind about rotation, they can be a PITA to remove and install so for me not worth the hassle.

It uses the same tools as the F150 so it's not terribly hard

I understand the advantage of the full size spare. The donut is not a space saver in an under mount because you cannot use the saved space. I have only used, recently, my donut spare once in 10 years with my Ranger. That being said, here where I live there can be hours between repair shops.

Looks like all Mavericks come with two different spare tires:

1. a space saver spare tire, donut, or temporary tire, size T155/70D17
2. If you purchase a hybrid or pay extra for a so called "Full Size Spare" surprise, the size is 215/60R17 . This is not the same as the OEM tire/rim on any Maverick.

Please note, the spare does not have a Ford OEM TPMS factory sensor.

This information is shown on the Placard located on the driver side door jam.

If your looking for a true "Full Size Spare" size 225/65R17, we have 3 like new with delivery miles, factory OEM Maverick 17" Steel wheel / Continental tire combo. This wheel/tire combo comes with the Ford OEM TPMS factory sensor and will be immediately recognized by your vehicle. Buy one (1) Ford Maverick Wheel and Tire combo and you will get a FREE New Gentex Homelink Auto Dimming Mirror with Compass. Easy to install and looks factory OEM. No more using a separate remote/clicker to open 3 Garage Doors, Entry Gates, or activate Homelink compatible Light systems.

Size 17" x 7
Bolt Pattern 5 x 108mm
Tire Brand: Continental ProContact TX
Tire Size: 225/65R17
Treadware rating of 500
