This is in the FWIW dept. My '94 Ranger had a drop-in bedliner and it absorbed 11 years of abuse, with just a few nicks and scratches here and there. Contrast that with an '05 Nissan Titan LE. At the time, Nissan claimed to be the first to offer a factory SIBL. I had that truck 14 years before selling it. That liner looked like the surface of the moon; craters, pits, and separation all over the place. My opinion only, but I would rather have the plastic drop-in.

I have seen this time and time again on trucks accross the spectrum, labor is cost, so short cut labor time to make more profit.

Its lack of prep, thing is IMHO, you cant take anything for granted, i would say all surfaces werent prepped, so remove it all and start from scratch. Cause the other may not peel for months/years.

They usually tell you not to load onto it for a cure time, i am in texas and we just park em in summer sun for a few days. Same for window tint, let it sit in sun for hours to cure.

Yes but as i stated before.... drop in's are a nightmare in canada, unless you have the box lined or fully rust proofed, the liner will scratch the paint and store humitity and with our salty road, they rot the boxes on trucks!

When the factory does it, they are motivated to crank them out as fast as possible. When a local shop does it they are motivated to preserve their reputation or their business will die. I had mine done at the dealer and it's a work of art. They did a beautiful job. Gonna let it cure for a few weeks before "challenging" it. Looks too nice to mess with!

Hey guys! Just wanted to see if any of you had the same issue...
Had my maverick for 3 weeks now (2 weeks actually cause it spent a week at the dealer for a still unresolved issue)
Hauled a traffic light last night (made out of plastic and fiber glass) and when i pulled it out, the liner got damaged at 3 spots, checked under the light and there were no hard edges and i can see the beds paint now.... kinda dissapointed, my 2500 chev with linex took way more abuse and i still cant see the paint in the bed.

Is this from ford or the dealership? I've given mine a beating and haven't had this happen yet. The picture looks really thin compared to mine.

Same here with my 94 ranger and dibl...no rust underneath after 20 years. I called zebart about ppf on my maverick and also asked if they sell dibl and guy said they recommend sibl because over time, sand can get under dibl and rub paint off causing the rust problem. I figure using a tonneau cover would greatly reduce chance of sand getting under a dibl like on my ranger which had both a dibl and soft cloth tonneau cover (with the annoying metal snap buttons...ouch on the fingers in winter) for the life of the truck.

Same story as a few others here. I ordered SIBL thinking it would be a step up, and because I don't like the slippery nature of my 12 year old DIBL. But I will say my New England DIBL truck had zero rust under the DIBL and the DIBL performance was flawless. I abused that truck bed like you can't imagine. I had a 20 acre property in the country and my Ranger routinely carried cow manure, firewood - I was constantly using shovels back there. The DIBL was a trooper. It looks like 1,000 angry racoons scratched it every night, but it is solid after a decade of abuse.

I'm curious to see how the SIBL holds up. My use case at age 66 has changed. Like (I suspect) most people on here, I suspect the toughest abuse my SIBL will see is a cardboard box from Lowes. So I'm not much worried. The SIBL for me was cosmetic and I hope anti-slip and sound reducing.

I do wish Ford had selected a fiber reinforced thermoplastic or a sheet molded material for the bed. Like the Santa Cruz and Honda. Just my personal opinion, but I think those solutions rock. Modern materials generally outperform steel and aluminum in several ways.

The factory spray in seems thin. My cousin has a 2022 f-150 hybrid with factory liner. He saw my Mav yesterday (dealer added spray in for me). He says mine is much better and that he is not happy with the factory spray in on his..

I was worried about that myself. When I get my Maverick I'm going to put some sacrificial strips on the bottom. Not sure what material yet- teak, cedar, aluminum? I'm going to be loading machinery, building materials, etc. Saw it done on another pickup and it looked good.

Here is what I bought with my Fordpass points. They are from Ford parts, easy to install, and protect the bed and tailgate when you drag crap in and out of the truck bed. They are the typical hard vinyl like the bed rail protectors. They fit around all the tie-downs.
Bed Tray Liner Part # NZ6Z-9900038-B
Tailgate Liner Part # NZ6Z- 9900038-C
Curious to know how tightly the bed tray liner fit against the sides of the truck bed. Did you install over a SIBL or over a painted bed?

Ford is cranking out 1000's of units compared to Line-X/Rhino. Shortcuts will be taken. Line-X or Rhino will hopefully do it right the first time so they do not piss off their customer base. For me I would rather have a factory DIBL vs a factory SIBL. I get the "sand and dirt will get underneath a DIBL" argument. For me, drop it in and forget it. Why inspect the bed unless the liner is being replaced or a new buyer wants to see the condition of the bed. It is obvious the bed condition falls way short of Line-X high “Shore D” hardness rating, tensile strength, and tear strength properties, to name a few.

I have an update from my dealer and they are having issues with the guys doing the liner... they are going to fix it under warranty but i have to negotiate cause they want to do touch ups and i want the whole bed redone as its been 3 weeks and its soft everywhere and it peels off like a banana
You haven't said where this liner was done but from what you've posted it sounds like it was not a factory spray but dealer done after it arrived. Which is it because people are assuming it's a factory issue and it may not be.
If it's a dealer install and they've admitted to having issues with their installer try to get them to pay for a replacement from your trusted installer instead. Good luck.
