Does anyone know about or have heard the harmonic whine while in reverse that is supposed to be warning of excessive brake wear.
(Not the beep beep reverse sound
but a whine that sounds even when you are not braking)

You mean the brake squealer?

I've never heard one sound like a harmonic whine.

Someone standing on a curb as you pull up slowly braking should hear the squealer though - if you can't hear it over say low speed motor noise.

Only reverse though?

It is not a squeal but a steady high pitched hum or whine. My dealer said it has to do with brakes even though my brakes passed inspection.
Not covered under warranty because it considered part of breaking system and normal use and wear and tear comes into effect. Says it is $900.00
fix to adjust harmonic sensor without doing brakes. If that is true I'll just wait until inspection and replace brakes too.

There isn't anything called a brake harmonic sensor on a Ford Maverick. Did you ask the dealer for a written estimate with this in writing?

When I first heard that reverse sound, I thought the signal light was on! Jeff

You better have that dealer do the work and please check the blinker fluid. Tell their tech to be sure to use a left handed monkey wrench. Ok, enough kidding. Get another opinion from another shop please. That sounds like a scam. Good luck!

No I didn't but he said that was approximate cost and to wait until the brakes are done to reduce service charge. I am used to chipping sound when brakes are wearing out not this hum or whine but he said harmonic sensor.

Yeah
I thought it was a bit off and I am in not in any rush. It does not seem that the sound would be a normal wear issue but something else and he said it wasn't covered under my extended warranty. It is why I posted the question because it does not happen all the time as I think it would if it were the brakes.

I think any reverse whine is to meet the hybrid requirement to make an audible sound for blind people when backing up. The forward sound is different, I think.

Some pure EV cars make a very loud growling sound in reverse. Looked that up and it's apparently intentional, to warn people. Jeff

Do you notice it the most in the morning, after not driving for a few days? If so, it’s just some rust on the rotors.

The only harmonic sounds I intermittently hear are the electric drive motor in the hybrid trans axle. Some think they hear distant ambulance sirens. Maybe the clearance between the winding and the armature magnets are rubbing the nitrogen molecules???

Maybe you had a baffle in front quarter panel that used to block more noise - and it's fallen over. Mine have couple times.
Now you are hearing the motor noise more than you even did.

Also - you never said how many miles on hybrid - since comments about brakes lasting longer have been made, it depends.
