I will admit that anti lock brakes are a good thing if the driver is smart enough to learn the proper way to use them.
ABS is objectively better for 95% of the driving population that doesn't understand how to help steer and control a vehicle with braking.

As far as straight line emergency stopping - ABS beats even the best drivers every time.

Spent the majority of of my life driving without nanny aids.
I had intentionally avoided most of the obtrusive nanny stuff until my Mav purchase, which came with Co-Pilot as a requirement for the AWD and 4K tow package I wanted.
After living with it, there are some nice features in the suite.
The rear cross traffic alert is great to have in a parking lot, and blind spot vehicle detection is something I've grown to like. I still check my mirrors, but the extra "eyes" don't hurt.

Rear camera - It's a very nice to have that was included on the XL, along with power mirrors.

The lane keeping aid is well implemented IMHO, and is something I would not have added, but it isn't obtrusive and can be easily turned on/off.
So, IMHO, these safety features are worthwhile..

... I’m cruising like a BMW in the twisties and it see’s a car in the OTHER lane in a curve and goes HARD into emergency braking without any warning.
This feature is one of the true nanny state (mandated) items that actually takes over, and in your example completely inappropriately. It's examples like that which resulted in me selecting to disable the Active Braking feature through the settings menu, and adjusting the alert sensitivity.
I've heard other horror stories of emergency braking, like on the highway because a plastic grocery bag blew in the wind in front of a vehicle (not on a Maverick).
I don't want to replicate that or your example.

I will admit that anti lock brakes are a good thing if the driver is smart enough to learn the proper
Yep. No argument there.
If you look across the available inventory, there are few and far between options to be nanny free,
but at least in this point in time, the most obnoxious features can be minimized.

In any case, enjoy the drive.

Anyone remember the lost art of brake pumping ?
Remember? Not a problem.

Problem: remembering to not pump!

The rear cross traffic alert is great to have in a parking lot,
I've been far less than impressed with it.

It seems to have gotten better after a few months--but initially, tended to announce itself after the vehicle had already cleared me, rather than when it would potentially have been useful information!

Odd, my rear cross traffic alert works great and at the right time. Unless the idiot driving behind me is above safe parking lot speeds.
Which is MORE THAN HALF the time ! Grrrrr.

Where the rear cross traffic helps the most is pulling out of a spot when there are two full sized land barges on either side, and no way to see what is coming.
I agree it's not a panacea, but it helps. Just the other day it paid for itself twice.

HRG - I do that too, but quite often that's not an option.

I'm required to at work, so it becomes habit. The whole backing in thing started years back but in my mind back-up cameras, and 360 cameras, make the practice obsolete. However, it is engrained into a mindset and company policy so, here we are.

I never back in a space. I always would rather not get hit in the front end when the one backing out across from me backs into me. Got that T-shirt long ago.

Yep skilled drivers know how not to endanger grandma in a parking lot.
But watching some elderly backing out and they cant even turn their heads enough to look back is scary.

I had been asking my wife to back into the garage, she preferred to drive in until the day my son parked his lifted jeep behind her. She hopped into our hatchback, hit the door opener and tossed it into reverse. It was a very expensive lesson.

But it was still your fault?

I put some Blizzaks on a set of steelies. Total tank in the snow now. Proper tires for conditions make all the difference. Hard to go back to all seasons after you’ve done a winter with dedicated snow tires. All season tires should really be labeled “three season”.
