Would a loose driveshaft bolt cause movement where the CV connects to the transmission 🤔

Found a good picture of what I suspect the issue is coming from (transmission seal bearing/case bushing)

Curious as to what your mileage is.
Hope you have better luck than I’ve had so far. I’ve had quite a few conversations with Ford Customer Service and the local Ford dealership but so far have had a lot of talk and no action.

Just got back from the Ford dealership. They stated that the issue is cause by the lift and that the movement I'm seeing where the CV enters the transmission is "within the normal range". They noted that the lift is changing the angle of the CV, which is causing the wobble. So I basically got nowhere. They also did not inspect the transmission case bearing. Not too pleased that I shelled out $65 to have them not do a full inspection. But I guess at least I have documentation stating that the movement I'm seeing is normal.

Three main questions are still floating around in my head:

  1. If the lift is really causing the issue, why isn't it happening with the other CV shafts?
  2. If a 2" change in the angle is really that drastic, wouldn't the same thing happen on a non-lifted truck if you were on a slant that extended the suspension by 2"? I still have at least three more inches of travel beyond the lift
  3. If it is the lift, why aren't we seeing postings from folks with the same lift having the same issue?
I did mention the Tremor that is coming out, and that that model has a 1" lift. The tech noted that the Tremor is going to have changes in the suspension that account for the angle change. Hard sayin' not knowin', but I have a feeling that the lift in the Tremor will be similar to the Rough Country lift I have installed.

I have work as an auto technician/ mechanic for the city of NY for 30 years . Judging from what I see on your video it seems to me that you have a bad transmission case bearing you said they did not check that bearing and I wonder why. The other side did not produce that amount of play. I don't know what there specification is on normal play. It's hard to make a diagnosis just from a video. Check it again.😊

UPDATE. After a few more conversations with the Ford Customer Service Manager that was assigned to my case # and the local dealership the following has been determined:

1. the Customer Service Manager is the communication go between for the customer and dealership only, 2. The Ford engineers only have conversations with the dealership , 3. Customer Service Manager has no direct communication with the engineers, 4. The person that drove my lariat told me that they personally didn’t think the rims or tires were the cause for the intermittent wobble, 5. The engineers and dealership have decided that “verifying the wheels are not the problem” should be the 1st thing to eliminate in the equation (seems reasonable), 6. I’ve been told by both the Customer Service Manager and dealership that no wheels from any other model of Maverick or Bronco will fit and the only rims and tires that will fit must be from a Maverick Lariat since they are 18”.

So, their plan of action is to wait until someone orders a Lariat and it’s delivered to the dealership so they can use those wheels to determine if mine are any good. (Now I’m guessing at this point but I’d assume that when it came in the person would need to reject taking delivery so the Maverick becomes the dealership’s property and only them would/could they utilize those wheels). They have non scheduled at this time. I told them that hoping a Maverick comes in is not a good plan.

From what I’m seeing on the internet all Broncos and Mavericks utilize the same bolt pattern so I’m not sure as to why they couldn’t use any of those 17” wheels just to verify the trueness of mine or if I have a bad tire.

I also mentioned that I have a full size spare that they could use but they didn’t seem to be too interested in that either.

Since waiting is currently the only thing that is being done the Customer Service Manager stated they wanted to cancel my case # and reopen one when things start to happen. I requested it remain open. They will get back to me on 3/27 to see if there has been any action from the dealership.

So the way I see it, since they must use the 18” wheels from a Lariat, none are currently at any local Ford dealerships, none are scheduled to arrive soon, and Ford wants to close the case #, I’m basically being told to “GO AWAY.”

Appreciate the input! They probably didn’t check it because it’s easier to say “there’s a lift on it, so that’s why you are having the issue” instead of properly diagnosing it. When I took it in I was supposed get the airbag recall done… but they forgot to order the airbag. Had the appointment for over a month and the service manager also called me the day before to let me know it would be better to drop off since the airbag replacement would take a few hours. Going to talk with the master tech when I go back to actually get the airbag replaced. Hopefully they are a reasonable person.

Hey guys. Im freaking out a little bit after noticing the same wobble feeling at 30-40 mph speeds in my eco boost. I have no lift and im at about 18k miles but having the same symptoms. I was worried my Cobb AP tune was the issue now its looking like there’s something else going on? Do you folks suggest I unflash the tune until I get resolved?

I’m not sure how the tune would cause the issue. The tune might be something they state is a modification so I might pull it back until after Ford takes a look at it. Are you noticing anything specific about the symptoms? Coming from one side vs the other? Coming from the front? Are you getting a clunking noise when you hit bumps, or rock the truck back and forth at low speed? The theory with mine is that it’s the case bearing. More about this above in the thread.

I have a 2022 Lariat AWD 2.0 EcoBoost with ~900 miles that has an intermittent slight low speed wobble. In doing a search here I haven’t seen much on this issue so I thought maybe a thread specific to this topic would help. The shimmy seems to be more prevalent between 20-30 mph. It’s not a vibration like an out of balance tire nor is it a steering wheel wobble. It’s felt more in the seat and floor than in the steering wheel. Dealership couldn’t replicate the shimmy so they checked the rear wheel balance and sent me on my way. The tire pressures were all at 44psi so I lowered to 35psi. No real difference.

I’ve seen on a couple of threads here where some were having a similar problem where a lift had been added. Some dealers were blaming the aftermarket lift, but when the lift was removed the problem remained. My truck has no lift. One dealer found a “warped drive” and ordered parts but at this time the poster wasn’t sure what parts were order for the repair.

Is anyone having a similar issue?
First thing-- Check everything for looseness

Well, after some pushback on the Ford Customer Service rep and the local dealership they finally agreed that the bolt pattern for Mavericks, Broncos, and some other Ford products are all 5x108 (5x4.25) and they should be able to find a set they can use on mine to determine if my wheels are the problem and move on from there.

I reminded them that I have a “bumper-to-bumper” warranty and the wheels were between the bumpers, and that “hoping” another Lariat would come in was not a very pro-active plan.

Dropping off at the dealership on 4/10.

UPDATE: Another Maverick Lariat come into the dealership for a 5,000 mi oil change that has the same wobble as mine but worse (per the dealership). They are reaching out to Ford Engineers for advice but are now considering this a “characteristic of this vehicle.”

Lmao. What a terrible response. "We can't find what's wrong with it, even though it's just a parts bin vehicle, and we also can't tell you why other vehicles with the same parts from the bin don't have this issue."

Look into your state's lemon law if this bothers you. You may be eligible.

Just curious, have you always had the problem or did it occur sometime during your 18k miles?
