Hi, advice please..
I don't do off-roading and also don't tow.
But ordering AWD for snow/winter drive.

Now that I am ordering AWD, am thinking it only makes sense to add 4k tow or fx4(for 800$). I am just thinking from resale perspective(just in case, why not)

What do you suggest..
or is it worth skipping 4k and fx4 and save 800.

I mean, if I had to pick one of the two, I'd pick tow package. You get a lot of the stuff from the fx4 plus the better tow rating.

That said, if you aren't ever going to tow or go offroad, you might not need either.

But also I drive through roughly the same winters as you do, and I've never bothered with AWD either. 😆

I would opt for the 4K four sure. (Pun intended 😊).

Hell, I’m having to buy two trucks because the dealer failed to add my requested 4K package.

That will give you lots of options for pulling a small trailer or camper should the need arise.

JMO for what its worth.

If you’re going ecoboost over hybrid and you’re going AWD over FWD you should get the 4k tow. I know I know, but where does it stop. If I got all that shouldn’t I get the FX4, too? Some would say yes.

I just think the 4k tow is cheap enough, it leaves options available to you in the future and if nothing else, resale.

4k gives radiator, fan and trans cooler which you don't get with fx4. You also get the better drive ratio which should make it a bit quicker off the line at the expense of some mpg. And if you ever do need to tow something, you have more headroom.

Also doesn't the skid plate have to get removed to do an oil change with the fx4? I think I read that.

If you're not going off-road and you don't need to tow, why get either?

You'll get worse gas mileage with both for the life of the vehicle.

Since neither is something you would want/use/need, it becomes a budget question. If you can afford it, get it. If you can't, don't.

Thanks for posting this question… I literally was watching the Maverick Snow video wondering if I should add the FX4 package. Most answers you received made sense, so nope, I’ll just keep my Tow package. Thanks everyone for honest, thoughtful answers… makes my subscription price more than worth it👍🏻

I think both packages are a great value even with the overlap.

Some additional things not mentioned in the package details:

FX4:
not only adds the tow hooks, but also the framework to mount the tow hooks (search the forum for a better explanation)

4K Tow:
Backup camera has downward facing view at the push of an onscreen button to align the hitch with a trailer (I'm assuming that this is not a standard feature)

The fx package offers better wheels, under body protection, front tow hooks, drive modes (sand and mud/ruts), hill descent control, a heavy-duty engine fan and radiator, trailer hitch receiver for $750. My vote is the Fx4.

Mmm, looks like I will loose eco and sport modes with fx4(for sand and rut mode).

May be I am leaning towards 4k tow. Will sleep on it few days 😀. I ordered it already but I think I have plenty of time to change the config.

just to increase value of the vehicle in the long run.
For 800$ I think one of the upgrade is worth.
