Just interesting how a Mav can be pretty after a totaled collision.
Finally a Maverick under $20,000. Ugh! Salvage title.
Wonder if frame is damaged. Tempting.
I see a lot of rear collisions before Maverick pics but I have not seen many rebuild after pics.
I have never been afraid of scratch and dent appliances but I do not know if insurance will cover this????

Well,I hit a deer with our dodge caravan and the insurance company totalled it. I fixed it with a coat hanger and some wire, took a nice check from the insurance company and have been driving it the last 3 years. It doesn't look pretty but I don't care. Saving miles on our maverick. I will probably sell it this spring for even more money since it runs so good still.

It's not like the old days when I straightened out frames using an oak tree and a come along beating them straight with an eight pound sledge hammer 🤪

Very Nice thread and Great replies.
Hopefully, this gets pinned so others thinking about getting one of these is well informed... ;)

Gone are the Days...of "Repairable" vehicles..😕
I realise that "safety" is the concern. But, can't anything take a "little bump" anymore....
 If I had the spare $$$ and space... I could corner the market on Maverick Patrs.. 🤣

I've done that too. There were no salvage titles in Texas 35 years ago, at least not that the average person could tell. A salvage title was issued by the state when a total loss was was sold by the insurance company to a dealer or back to the owner. If the wreck was repaired it was inspected and signed off on by any peace officer and a regular blue title was issued with no notation that the car was ever damaged. A lot of early muscle cars on the road now were probably once totals and repaired when their value went sky high.

Jerry,
At what speed do you define as little bump?
Just curious.

The major insurance company I worked for did allow full coverage (collision/comprehensive/UMPD, etc....) on a salvage title vehicle.....BUT, we openly discouraged it.

We explained to the owner that IF that vehicle was ever totaled again, or even a smaller accident, the value of a salvage title would greatly reduce the threshold for vehicle repairs vs totaling it again.

And, when totaled again, the value would be much lower for a payout, despite being repaired prior.

A main system we used was called CCC One, and it would help "value" the vehicle with a salvage title (much lower value).
So, why pay for Collision coverage (typically the most expensive coverage), when it will payout very little.

We only had a few exceptions, such as non insurable at all if a vehicle had ever been totaled from flood damage before (repair status irrelevant).
This is close to the standard .
I have rebuilt a few salvage titles including 1 maverick with and 1 without a salvage title and state farm covered them no problem with full coverage.
Sold them and the other people had no problem getting insurance here in southern california , where most issues with money , insurance and lawyers are the worst!

That picture of the spare looked full size, and exactly what I recall seeing when others showed pictures of squeezing a full size up in that space.

I compared that one pic to my fold locations on rails - indeed looks fine. Crumple zone not crumpled.

Depending on trim and options - the sensors to replace in bumper, the tow hitch bracing, officially replacing the sheet metal/tailgate would have been expensive.

I could see it being totaled for parts/labor expense - they just lowered that expensive if they really used bondo on mostly straightened out metal.

Here in KS you fix a salvage title vehicle (bought one back from insurance in past), and it gets rebuilt title after state inspection gives it a once over for road worthiness and safety.
They are not nearly as deep checks as some states - but they do exactly the same as they would do for any out-of-state vehicle coming in - basic road worthiness for safety (and frankly questionable at that).

And no problem with getting full coverage if required because upside down in vehicle financing. I wasn't, but friends have been and still owed on loan, which required full coverage. I recall they used 1/2 the insurance funds after buyback for repair, 1/2 for loan paydown, to finally get on positive side. Reinforced why to never start out wrong on financing.

I'll have to go look, but this pic doesn't seem right at ALL. To my eye, the tire is deformed and the metal has been bent enough that the paint flaked off.

The fangs in the other pic look closer to normal for a big tire, as you pointed out, but that still looks like the tire has been shifted. What has been shifted upstream of that is the question... if it was just the spare tire bracket and whatnot, maybe it's fine.

True, shoved up and/or back, like the tire was never relaxed a bit and tightened back into the spot.

brings up an interesting story: as the local NASCAR track photographer at the local track, they've also got about a dozen or so different classes of cars, including what are basically 4 cylinder hondas, acuras & such. this class is pretty agressive & there's always a bunch of crumpled, torn up vehicles that seem to just alwys keep going.
earlier this year, I had my 24 year old daughter out with me & she made a comment about "I'm amazed at the damage on some of these cars & they're still going, but get one little bent fender & an insurance company totals your car"
Leave it to kids to point out our irony!

Update:
My wife called the dealer and they said it has been "recertified" and now has a "rebuilt title".
I have been bait and switched before on that statement.
I may go to the dealer and get pics of underbody today.
I also found out Safeco has no problem "FULL COVERAGE" insuring rebuild titles.
Hmm.....unless someone here wants it more I may have to investigate further.
If the title and sticker on the inside of the door jam says "rebuilt" then it is ready for sale because it passed inspection by the state. I have had 3 vehicles in a row that had rebuilt titles. Some people are skeptical but will buy at the price price. That was me, especially if the vehicles air bags (big bucks) in still in place with the sensors. I drove my last one until a year ago and sold it pretty much same price bought it for, bought it 3 years old and sold it after14 years. dodge caravan sxt.

I have progressive and they told me when through a discussion of inquiry. Only wanted to know about scenarios in case of an event. They said they don't write checks out. They only give the rebuild shop the money. What insurance company did you have? I would like to see what their prices are. would like to switch to them in case......

So your saying progressive won't " total loss" a vehicle? They will only pay a shop to fix it? Never heard of that before. The check we got from our insurance company was minus the salvage value.

That is great that your insurance company did that. My sister n law after tree hit the car because of hurricane about 8 years ago: Her insurance company wrote her a check to spend as she wished. The car had a rebuilt title at the time. She pocket the check that represented the damages and drove that car as is for a couple more years. I think the insurance was geico at the time.
