This intake looks well designed most likely will increase performance, just not big performance, I took the restrictive looking elbow off that is connected to the stock filter box & intake above the radiator, & to me it 'felt' a little more snappy, so when I went to the dragstrip I made runs & then made a couple of runs with that elbow off, & it did result in a better et, only by .05 second & .4 mile per hour, so my butt dyno was right.

You said these 2 avg fuel mileage values were from a 40 mile trip each way, but your odometer only indicates 2.1 miles travel between these 2 pictures.?
30653mi and 30655.
Good call out.

I’d call that an earnest attempt at deception.

The S/B grill intake scoop and airbox are at least 40 percent larger- I do like the results for what it is-

So what’s the real purpose for this air cleaner 😃. Just curious what it buys me on a 4 cyl
Your fuel air system re adjusts for the less restrictive air filter media.
Returning fuel air mixtures/ratio’s to the stock profile set up.

It looks freakin assume ! You gain a bit cooler sound, noise.
Yeah noise because if it’s not a V-Twin or a V-8 it sounds like a 4 banger.

I know I know, your thinking, ‘It’s that cranky old guy again.

Mr. Ford spent $9,000,000.00 making the GT40.
It sounded very good, Get me ?

Loving the S/B intake as well- Wakes up the motor, hits a little harder and has a nice rumble felt thru the gas pedal. Interested to see how the added oomph helps pulling our camp trailer. Cheers -
What kind of trailer are you pulling?

Here’s your solution:
You remove this
Ford Maverick S&B intake installed. What a difference IMG_2271

And install this:

The only time “it’s not legal” comes into play in California is when getting your smog certificate to register your car with the DMV. New cars are exempt for the first 8 years, then you get tested every 2 years.

When you need to get smog tested, put the stock air cleaner box back on. Don’t even bolt it in. When smog test is complete, put the open element air cleaner back on.

A $20 open element filter gets you the same results as a $350 cold air intake: increased intake sound and no change in power output over the stock configuration.

The stock filter flows all of the air that the engine can take, with virtually no restriction. Any claims of +25 hp or whatever, are just made up. If you could get 25 extra hp from a bigger air cleaner, Ford would have already done that. When your 250 hp engine costs $5,000 per unit to make ($20 per hp), an extra 25 hp is worth $500. A bigger air cleaner box would only cost $20 more than the one they are already using. It is a no-brainer for them to put the correct size air box on the vehicle. They may have made those type of amateur mistakes in the 1950’s, but that was 75 years ago.

And the whole “but it is a COLD AIR intake” argument doesn’t bear out any change on the dyno. It’s true that the power output is dependent on the intake temperature, but in a turbo engine with an air to water intercooler, the intake temp is ~170F, regardless of whether you’re getting 70 F air from the fender or 110F air from under the hood.

About 2500 LB's Loaded but with a frontal load on the higher side due to the overall height.

What model is that? I'd like to see if they have one with a bit less ground clearance to reduce some of those frontal area concerns.

I do not believe that an air intake improves your fuel economy. It doesn't make sense. The largest loss in the intake system is the throttle, so getting rid of intake flow head losses upstream of the throttle won't do anything. You MIGHT get wide open throttle improvements if you can get more air in, but that seems unlikely with a turbo as well. Closed loop fuel-air mixture control means all your fuel is burned in a steady state condition, so unless you have managed a way to make your fuel burn hotter your fuel economy is solely based on the outside conditions and your right foot. My guess is any improvement is psychological since it's louder.

Rove Lite 14BH- Ours has the offroad package which adds 8 inches or so in height due to the raised suspension.

And what is that?
A louder intake. If there is any benefit, it might be slightly less restrictive than stock but that would only matter at WOT (wide open throttle).
