different strokes for different folks, but seems like a waste of $ to me unless it gets a custom tune to go along with it. Without a tune its just for "eye candy". The computers control everything and its been pretty much proven the factory setup is designed very well for the stock tuning. There's been numerous threads on the subject. Just my 2 cents.

The computer controls the mixture, and if an intake has less restriction than stock, this means more fuel and air at WOT as long as the airflow sensor and injectors can keep up with the increased flow. Have there been dyno results posted here that show aftermarket intakes have no advantage on an otherwise stock Maverick? If not, how is this "pretty much proven"?

I'm confused. How does putting an air intake and filter directly in the engine compartment, provide any colder air than the original sealed design which is pulling air from the front of the vehicle?

S&B isn't SVT, for starters.

Fair enough.
Here's s&b's design so far. I realize this hasn't been finalized yet.
Looks better than SVT.

Is this supposed to help with more horsepower, better fuel economy?

How much of improvement would the S&B be over a K&N using the OEM intake of the Maverick?

It doesn't. Any advantage the intake would provide would be from less air restriction than the factory cold air intake, usually from larger-bore tubing, more gradual tubing bends and less-restrictive filtering elements allowing for higher maximum horsepower at WOT. It won't do much of anything for efficiency, and efficiency gains play a near-zero part in the sale of such intakes.

In other words, Don't put too much merit in the term "cold air intake" and assume that's where gains will be had. It's a marketing term, many times used incorrectly to describe many third-party intakes which aren't sourcing air from a "cold" location at all. The S&B is not one of those incorrectly using the term.
