Hi has anyone gotten an answer about rustproofing. I have called almost everyone to see if the warranty is safe if I get my truck rustproofed by a known company. Ford Canada tells me it’s the dealer who has last word. Krown tells me that they have specs from Ford on where to drill and what to look for. But the service manager at the dealer says NOT recommended. I’ve read a few places that you DIY the wheel wells and stuff but not underneath. I’m so lost. 😂

I Krowned my 2024 Lariat hybrid the day it was delivered. It has been re-sprayed twice more. I had no issues with my 2008 Ranger which was rust free after all those Ontario years. Dealers like to get a cut on everything but are not looking out for their customer.
I have had no issues with the vehicle (maybe the only person who has never had the 12V battery issue or axle problems). Krown doesn't make a mess but they do not give dealers a cut as they deal with you.
I'm sure the dealer would happily sell you one of those expensive electronic anti rust modules which DO NOT WORK. If you could connect all the hundreds of parts directly to the module it might help. But they don't connect, so any stray electrons which are the result of the chemical reaction that rust creates.
Krown doesn't stop rust. But it can slow it down and in my highly anecedotal experience, works pretty well.

I've used Krown, Fluid Film self applied, and Rust Check. I use Rust Check now, seems to adhere better than Krown. I would definitely get it done, especially in Quebec. I got the same dealer BS from our local Mazda dealer since they wanted to sell me the electronic device at several hundred dollars. Uhhh, no.

Cheers.

I’ve had the Krown treatment done every year since new. No issues at all. The dealer Service Manager was looking at it one day and his only comment was that he would rather have a little messy spray than a rusted out truck.
He the Ford dealer‘s Service Manager does not have any service issues with Krown. He said it also helps protect the wiring harnesses underneath from our winter driving conditions. The only one from Ford (dealer) that might object would be the tech that’s working on your vehicle. A good wash after a week or so and all the overspray are gone until the next treatment.

What sold me on Krown was a 2011 Kia that I picked to get me through until my Maverick (22-23 year long build) was delivered . The car fax showed that it was Krown treated every year 11 years. The muffler man was very surprised that the car was clean solid rust free after 11 or 12 Ontario winters and also being a Kia Soul.

The dealerships used to Undercoat vehicles!! My parents had their 2005 Ford Five Hundred undercoated at the dealership!! But when they bought their 2010 Ford Escape Ford no longer did undercoating!! They ended up having Line X do it!!

Mine is Ziebart protected and was done through the dealership - I bring it in once a year for a check and respray if needed. A buddy of mine bought a used F150 and the Carfax noted that it was Ziebart sprayed where it was originally purchased, all he had to do was bring it to the local Ziebart dealer for inspection and registration and now their warranty is fully transferred to him.

I have all my vehicles done with Krown. The only issue I had is that if you don't tell at service when dropping vehicle off, they will look for a leak. Now any time I have service done I warn them about it. If it would affect Warranty I think you would hear more about. I would think the auto companies would like you having it done, it would stop complaints about rust on their vehicles.

Hello @Cin and welcome to the MTC forum

I agree wtlith the other statements as too the effectiveness of having a good quality anti corrosion spray applied to our vehicles!

Caveat to that, do get an oil spray, and in my opinion, do not get a solid type undercoating ..salt and moisture gets behind the coating and makes the corrosion situation worse.

I just had my 2025 Maverick Lariat undercoated (Krown) for its 2nd time after I dropped all my belly panels. You do not need to do this, they will still have access (to get the wand tip in) to spray the underside of the truck but I wanted to get the first two done like this.

I feel whom ever you spoke to at the dealership was indeed blowing smoke up your kilt to try and make a bit of money off you. Keep this in mind if this is your dealership and where you get any work done...could just be that one person or, it is an indication of their companies business practices.

Another thought is that it is always easier to say no when asked a question that they do not know the answer to (and do not want to find out), then to say yes and possibly be wrong. This is applicable to everything, in my experience.

Have a nice day,

Andy

Unless you plan on keeping your Maverick 15-20 years i wouldn't be concerned about rust proofing.

Bought my 2026 Maverick hybrid in August here in Minnesota. The dealership strongly recommend recommended rustproofing.
I never had my 2007 Honda Ridgeline rustproofed, and after 19 years all four wheel wells were completely rusted out. I think rust proofing is just a fact of life if you live in the north where they use a lot of salt.

The point of my response.....unless you plan on keeping your vehicle 20+ years, rustproofing is a waste of money. I.m.o. i have a 17 year old ram , never rustproofed and the body and frame are fine since i bought new in northern michigan. Most only keep their vehicles 5 years or less.

Even if you dont plan on keeping it, rustproofing is a great way to increase resale value in salty areas. Non proofed cars start showing rust within 2-3 years.

Mavericks show rusting right from the factory, it doesn't take 2-3 years. :ROFLMAO: I noticed some replacement parts came painted, while on the factory installed part it was not. I suppose suppliers may have changed over time, or as the price of the Maverick increased they improved a few things?
