Recently when washing my Maverick some paint chipped off the roof close to the windshield, revealing rust that looks to be spreading under the paint. Is this something that is covered under the corrosion warranty? I wash my truck 1-2 times per month and never noticed a chip in this area. Would the factory corrosion protection prevent the spread? This is South Florida, so no snow or salt on our roads.

I'm taking the truck in for it's 2nd oil change this week and I'll ask about the rust at that time. Regardless of outcome, I really need to get this taken care of. Looks like I'll be off to a bodyshop.

Perforation means it needs to have a hole that fully penetrates the metal.
Strictly speaking you’re absolutely correct, but what’s a vehicle owner to do? Allow his / her vehicle to completely rust through before claiming warranty coverage?

This is not directed at you but towards @Ford Motor Company - IMO the OP has a serious issue that needs to be addressed-and IMO Ford should take care of it.

Should. But likely won't.

Maybe not corrosion, but yes under paint. I've never had an issue like this not be covered under warranty.

Thank you for posting the warranty info! I hope they give you good news and keep us posted.

I noticed a chip with rust right above the windshield too. I assumed it was from a rock and was going to ask the service manager tomorrow when it goes in for cosmetic surgery 🤣, new headliner, scratched panel replacement, grabby brakes, BLIS and FE decal replacement. Hoping it’s only in the ”hospital“ for 3 days🤞🏻

Also, my 2013 CMax had an unnoticed bump on the front of the hood which I later suspected happened unloading the car. It grew and bubbled and you could see a bend when you looked under the hood. I took it to a Ford dealer and showed them and was told the metal had to be penetrated for the warranty to cover the repair. Needless to say the hole didn’t show up until the warranty expired 😖

I have seen this many times on other vehicles. Usually caused by paint being applied on damp metal. Bodies are washed and dried but, not completely dry. Rust forms under paint. Hard to dry completely with blowers, adding heat is good.

Hey car guys that do body stuff- ignoring warranties what is the diy fix for rock chips/ rust spots? Is it just a paint pen or should you prime paint etc?

That's defiantly a FORD Warranty problem, unless they claim it is a rock chip. I'd have them address it quickly...before rust penetrates...with that paint bubbling up it will be a pretty significant paint fix, requiring a body shop specialist. All the area with bubbling up paint will have to be sanded off.

That is a common issue when paint is applied over hand or finger prints, like grease or oil on paint. That rusty spot could penetrate deeper if not addressed soon. For rock chips it is always best to use a small artists brush to dap on anti-rust primer (or rust prohibitor jell) buff that, then apply finish color with another tiny artists brush. If there is bubbled up primary color paint, it has to be removed (sanded off) to prevent further rust. I find adding a clear coat layer is not worth it, except in large patches. Clear coat has to be sprayed on.

Has the windshild been replaced? Or maybe this happened when the windshild was installed. Sometimes when a windshild is replaced/installed the tech scratches some of the perimiter with the tools. This leads to rust. I have had this happen.

This is the standard rust warranty from all manufacturers. Only way it wil get covered is if the dealer fudges the warranty detail and Ford doesn't ask for pictures. Otherwise they would be painting hundreds of cars each week under warranty and go broke.
Rust warranty is basically from inside out not surface rust.

Why shouldn't it be directed at them? Nobody covers their crappy paint jobs. Nobody.

Fix your :poop:

You have all these crappy paint jobs coming from the factory because they get dipped by a machine and glossed over by someone who checks 15,000 a day and probably can't even see straight after 6 hours on the line.

Cover your effing paint @Ford Motor Company

This is unacceptable.my ram is 14 years old and has been in Michigan it's entire life and does not have rust like this. Now I'm nervous about my 23 maverick!

I agree, my 2002 LX470 has nothing like this on the body. As mentioned I've never replaced the windshield or had any work done that would cause this. Hoping for positive news from the dealer this week but I'm not expecting it.
