Ive had this truck 4 months. I don't drive a lot and I currently have about 2k miles on the odometer.

AWD, 4k tow running 245 65 17s and 1 inch front level lift. K&N drop in filter, no other mods. 89 octane gas used every time. Standard drive mode. I use it for personal transport and dont haul any heavy loads. Tire PSI set to 35.

I live in NW Indiana and do mixed driving of hwy and streets. I drive normally and I'm not a leadfoot. I don't use remote start or sit in traffic. I am getting absolute horseshit mileage. I have not seen 20mpg. I understand the figure may be off a tad with the slightly different tire size but other people with the same truck and mods are claiming 30mpg. WTF gives already? I bought a small truck to save on gas mileage. My V6 equinox was a gas pig and got better mileage. Its one of the reasons I dumped it. With the the gas $ now going through the moon its starting to bother me. I have the money but I didn't buy a "baby truck" to piss money away on gas. I bought this truck to get a few more mpg than the equinox and I was expecting to get at least 22mpg. I understand going up a size in tires may kill 1-2 mpg but come on now. Enough with this BS already. Im tired of the.excuses. Im seeing 17-18mpg tops. Less than 280 miles per tank. I am always putting gas in this truck. I've reset all settings twice to start from scratch to see if that helped and it has not.

Anybody have any ideas what could be going on? I cant be getting 10-12 less than other members with the same truck. Winter gas blend, altitude, driving style/ BS already. 10-11 mpg less than others is NOT normal. Something is wrong here and I'm getting pissed. The biggest reason people buy small trucks to save on gas.

I have the same issue. Best I have seen has been 22.5 with FX4 package and no tow package. Mixed with premium 93 Octane. Cold has had an impact and I noticed this turbo needs to be babied to squeeze the extra MPG. My Raptor gets 16 MPG (used to be 18) all around. Starting to look for an F150 Hybrid which boasts 24 MPG. I think the refiners are the issue as my MPG lower on all my vehicles. You can try changing gas brand like Sunoco as long as the delivery is not from the same spigots. I like the idea of having the dealer look air it. My dealer is 6 weeks for an appointment and was not excited to look at it.

Never liked Costco gas,to much detergent added in gas, even my Harley don't like it either...I run on premium gas..

Just out of curiousity, how do you have 8.5 hrs of engine time for 191.4 miles? Seems there may be a lot of idle time there.
That is what I was thinking too. It is easy to sit idling for long periods playing with it when new. I did but I have yet to see under 28 mpg on the eco boost so I don’t know! I am anywhere between 29 and 35 in normal mode

Have you ever checked on Pure-Gas.org for any non ethanol stations? Within an acceptable driving distance.
Where are you? I know some of the deep blue places don't allow the sale of non-ethanol fuel and that could be a possible issue. I know that some places which have banned non-ethanol fuel actually do add water, I have been told that more than one will add 1% water to the fuel, which could easily cause the problem with mileage. I still think it may be something that the dealership should address however, if it is running fat you should get watery eyes if you stand near the tailpipe and if it is really fat you will actually get a hint of gas in the exhaust. White exhaust can also indicate an issue the dealership should address but be aware of the outside temp, too cold and most exhause is white due to water vapor.

All one has to do is go to the Pure gas . org site. That will answer the question.
To your question. I go between Michigan and Florida. Never had a problem find none ethanol.

Good, last time I was east of the Dakotas, I had a devil of a time trying to find anything that wasn't ethanol fuel. That was about 15 years ago. I try to stay between the big rocks.

The above really is the answer.

To the OP....
  • Drop in air-filters do absolutely nothing for your vehicle and can actually be detrimental, even K&N filters. You are likely negatively impacting economy with it.
  • Lifting the truck increased the cross section presented to air, increasing drag. Impacting efficiency.
  • Larger and heavier tires greatly impact efficiency. Not only do you now have a lot more un-sprung mass to move, it is rotational mass, kind of the worst combination to add. You also increased the width of the tire, increasing the cross section presented to the air, increasing drag. Decreasing efficiency.
  • Your "normal" driving habits are likely a long ways off from ideal. That's OK, most people are.

Your truck is getting dead on what it should be, if not a little better than expected. You purchased a vehicle for efficiency and then immediately modified it with some of the least efficient modifications you can do. Modification that directly impact efficiency.

To get the rated mileage return it to stock. Drive less aggressively, even if you feel you aren't doing that now.

Our 6.0L Chevy 1500HD gets about 8-10 MPG in town and MAYBE 13 MPG on highway. I have seen it drop to 6 MPG while towing. It makes me want to cry sometimes. $110 to fill it the other day.....

Thankfully it sits most the time and isn't a primary vehicle.
Best breakdown of cause and effect.

That rolling mass is huge effect.

Your best bet at this point, is to disconnected the battery clear the fuel maps and do a grandma drive cycle so the new fuel maps will be made.

In my area there is a distributor Glover Oil. In the back they have credit card pumps, Non Ethanol 87 and 93, Aviation gas, Race gas, (NOT CHEAP) Diesel fuel. Just pull up to pump insert CC select fuel, pump away.

Most WaWa's have 89 non ethanol as well.

That is a shame mpg for a small truck.. It has been the common theme on others experience winter mpg.... My Hybrid Maverick was getting 33 on the highway with average of 37 in mix driving.. in January and February... I have found driving like a grandma upped my electric mode and average above 40 mpg... I have not experimented with gas stations but my first tank of gas was my best mpg... The dealer filled the first tank... I am not sure what the dealer put into it but I almost got 600 on the tank.. My wife does not like to drive with me because I drive too slow..
If I want to accurately track what my mileage is, I do it the old fashioned way. Take note of the mileage when you are refueling. At your next refueling, subtract the new mileage from the old mileage number and divide that sum by the gallons you just put in. So if I drive 500 miles on 12 gallons, my mileage is 41.6MPG.
Doing this shows me that the electronic mileage meter (over time) is off so before taking your Maverick in, start tracking your mileage manually, and take note of what you were doing with it between fill ups.
Good luck.

I was looking over my Maverick & see it has "shutters" that cover the radiator & intercooler. If these are not working properly, like staying open in cold weather it would take the engine longer to warm up & the intake charge will be much cooler causing sensors that add more fuel to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio. Could be a cause for lower mpgs.

I average 26 to 28 and have ever since i drove it home. Last week I pulled a small trailer with my riding mower to get it fixed. about a hour drive round trip. I still averaged 27 but it is a small light weight trailer.
