I’ve never had a car this fancy, and remote start is totally alien to me. It will be in my 2025.

let’s say I’m at home in August and I plan on leaving in 20 minutes. If I start my car remotely from the inside of my 68° house, will the air conditioner kick on and cool the cab?

Also what’s keeping the neighborhood hooligans from just driving off on a remotely started vehicle?

Yes.

It stays locked when you remote start it.

As said above yes it will cool. And it heats in winter. I keep my car at 72 so If it's warmer than that in the car in summer the air comes on to cool, and if it's colder than that in the winter the heat comes on. And it depends on what you have. Example, I have heated seats, mirrors and steering wheel. Now that it is really cold when I remote start it it will turn on the seats, mirrors, and the steering wheel and it turns on defrost automatically. There is a setting in vehicle settings where I could turn off the heated seats and steering wheel but I leave it on because what's the point of turning it off the whole idea is to stay warm.

The way Ford phrases it, the truck will "replicate" what you had it set to the last time you turned it off. So if you had the heat on, it will heat it. If you had the AC on, it will AC it. Quite often at a "high" setting so that it heats or cools quickly.

For the "what’s keeping the neighborhood hooligans from just driving off on a remotely started vehicle?" question, it depends on if this is push button start or old school key start.

If "old school key start", there is a message when you get in that says you need to insert the key to drive it. You don't need to crank the engine over, just insert the key and turn it to the accessory position. I assume push button start has a similar message about there needing to be a key fob present in the truck for it to get out of "park".

First question XL, XLT using Ford pass to start
or
Lariat w/ key fob start

Thank you for your reply.
With the Lariat you are going to have 2 options to start your truck.
A short distance key fob or the longer distance Ford Pass App.
Both of them have a vehicle run time limit.
Your truck remains locked. If somebody were to enter your truck the shift is locked and won't move without you (more correctly) your key fob being in the vehicle itself and pushing the start button.
Enjoy your new truck.

The 2023 Lariat does not have a start button on the keyfob. Also, someone on here said that you could quickly press lock, unlock, lock on the keyfob and it would remote start from the simple fob. Malarky! It just cycles through lock, unlock and lock again.

Yep on push button. You have to have it to unlock door or use keypad.

Hey Gary,
Is this member wrong?

Since it's a Lariat, your remotes should look like the attached photo. The start button has the red arrow pointing to it.

To use it, hit the LOCK button once, then the START button twice.

You must be relatively nearby for the remote's signal to reach the vehicle.

[/QUOTE] It isn't a aftermarket add-on.
It covered in the manual (If Equipped)
And the manual is wrong?

Ha. I think the "cheat code" keyfob sequence is part of an aftermarket add-on setup. "Start-X?"

Edit: Keyfob remote-start is also possible via the "Perimeter Plus" security system, which is OEM, but still an added accessory...
