Hey if you put that $800 diff in one of the investment vehicles, in the last 4 years, some asset appreciated significantly.

I've owned 15 new cars in my life. I have never purchased and have never needed an extended warranty. At an average of $1,500 a pop, I saved $22,500 over my lifetime. I am way ahead of the game in the rare event that a major repair is needed between 36K and 85K miles. But if it gives you peace of mind to have one, go for it.

It's a financial gamble you lose about 80+% of the time. However, if worrying about out of warranty repair costs keep you up at night, it may be worth your peace of mind.

It's important to understand the difference.

Granger is selling the Ford extended warranty - so they're both the same. The warranty seems to be some kind of potential 'cash cow' for dealers, granger claims to only make about 50 or 100 bucks when they sell one (current pricing about 2300 for 100k/10 yrs), whereas dealers seem to pull numbers out of the air and anecdotally charge 3500-4800 bucks. Dealers also like to load the extended into the financing thereby adding to their take.
When I bought my Maverick the financing guy at the dealership tried to sell me a warranty from them. I advised that I would be paying cash and not financing so he ws just basically making sure I signed everything correctly. He tried to sell me a warranty there. I mentioned Grainger and he had a funny look and then claimed he'd neve heard of them or their warranties but something tells me he knew who I was talking about. LOL

My 2023 Maverick just hit 32,000 miles, and its manufacturer's warranty will expire in a couple of months. I got multiple snail mail and emails from various extended warranty providers. My questions are:

1. Should I just roll the dice and hope it lasts as long as any Toyota?

2. If I buy an extended warranty, what should I watch out for?

3. Any recommendation for a good warranty provider?

Thank you!
Roll the dice. I have been driving 50 years.never purchased one, never needed one.

Yeah, those salespersons all go to 'acting school' - pretend you know nothing about this or that or hey it's crazy I never heard of this. I would have said oh well hey let me get the documentation and I'll post it on your entry door so that everyone knows about it - including you. On the other hand it is possible that he was a rookie and just clueless - I've taken my truck in 4x for an oil change and every time...that is... every time...they tell me that it takes the blend and not the synthetic and every time..every time...I have to inform that that well no it specifically takes the synthetic and yes I know it's more and yes I'm paying for it. I even tell them to note that on my account and yeah, they never ever do.

buy nothing! Don’t be fooled by some nonsense, they will rip all the money from your pockets by scaring you, don’t be a fool.

Granger is the go-to. Get a real Ford warranty, not an off brand. Consider the lighting rider to cover those $1000 headlights. Pick your miles, years and deductible to suite your needs.

My 2024 Hybrid XLT has 42K on it and told "excessive mileage" and can't buy a policy. What would you recommend after failing with Granger?

I've never heard of that being the issue before, being turned down for excessive mileage. 42,000 miles isn't that excessive. After looking at it I think 40,000 miles is the limit for that year model. I would actually speak to someone at Grainger on the phone to see if there's a workaround. I would also consider Ziegler, Lombard Ford or Flood Ford.

This looks fairly reasonable to me (not sure what was the price when I first bought it):

Thanks, my vehicle is only six months old but I'm already thinking of extended coverage when the factory bumper/bumper runs out. I am particularity concerned with computer tech related repairs on this high tech vehicle. Sadly, I just checked the Granger site but their warranty doesn't appear to cover anything computer related; cameras, sensors, infotainment system, software, modules, etc. I even called Granger and they wouldn't specifically say these things are covered. Instead I was referred to the 'Electrical' and 'Hi-Tech' coverage in their plan. 'Electrical' is not Electronic and the 'Hi-Tech' coverage covers things like power accessories, power windows, wiper motors, power door locks, power antennas, etc; things that I don't consider to be Hi-Tech. It does include the instrument cluster but not the Dashpad.

So, you did talk to them and got that response, interesting. Being that mine is a hybrid, I too feel the uneasiness of any type of future problem out of warranty
