Personally never tried AT tires as this is my first truck and I just went with the 3 snowflake winter tires. I usually do snows on my sedans I had so just kept the same pace for my Maverick. I don't have a need for AT tires...at this time anyways. All I know is 3 of my coworkers had ATs of some sort, one on a Silverado 1500, one on a GMC 2500 and one on a mid 90s Cherokee and all 3 immediately ordered snow tires after some serious snow fall. Maybe the drivers, maybe the vehicles, maybe the tires 🤷‍♂️ maybe all 3 😄 not really sure but none of them were pleased in the snow.
I've tried snow tires in the past. Yes they are better than snow rated ATs, but the difference is less between them and the difference between the normal street tires and ATs.

The real problem I have with snow tires is that they are so soft, you don't want to use them when not needed. It seems like there is often one big blizzard long after you think winter is over or some nasty weather unseasonably early.

I got mine off late this year, I think they held up better than the factory Pirellis are lol only little over 16k on them and they look worn already.

Factory tires are just trash. They've been trash for a very long time and only getting trashier as the years go by. Still, they should wear better than snow tires. I wonder if you completely wore through the extra soft rubber on your snows and are now into the harder substrate.

Apparently factiry are trash. Only my second new vehicle so I wasn't aware of that. The snows still look brand new actually. I didn't drive much at that time, part of the reason I waited so long. Waited til my oil change was due so I could make both appointments at once. My dealer is 30 minutes away and I always have to drop it off. This past Thursday evening I dropped it off for my windshield replacement and state inspection that I had made as a Friday appointment. Then yesterday afternoon I had to drive out in my Camaro to pay for the bill and pick up the key, so I could wait for my girlfriend to get out of work and bring me there to pick it up yesterday evening. Such a pain in the ass really but I know the windshield guy and he does an outstanding job!

I have those Pirellis - Scorpion all terrain. Well, they're not really much of all terrain tire, but then again, I haven't used the truck off road much. Drove up into the back yard a couple of times, to drop off bags of mulch or move boxes from the main floor to the garage when I was packing to move.

I will say, they've been decent dry road and wet road tires. Snow - not so good. And at 28,000+ miles, mine are getting to the point where I'll be changing them out soon.

And since I moved north (like a dummy), I think that having something 3-peak rated would be quite helpful. Which is why I'm on this thread.

Yea definitely seem like more road all terrain than anything but I agree they are good on dry and wet roads. And haven't gone off roading myself. Last winter first snowfall I pulled out of my driveway and goosed it, she kicked out good lol that's when I went and bought the Pirelli winter tires. Those worked well.

I know I'm not going to be happy with the OEM tires on my Hybrid XLT when the snow flies.

My first instinct is some AT tires, but maybe snow tires would be better
If I go with snow tires, I'd need another set of wheels too.

any recommendations for reasonably quiet ATs with a snow rating?
I biased to the Michelin Defender 2. They are quiet, smooth and performed extremely well in snow this past winter. According to the Tire Rack ratings the performance is very close to the cross climates based on exponentially more miles driven.

See the Jalopnik article linked below. They rate the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 highest as a dedicated winter tire.

So your running Michelin Defender 2's on your Maverick Tremor? I'm glad to hear that they did well in the snow last year. I am tire shopping for our 23 Ford Escape AWD hybrid currently and I've read mixed reviews in winter driving for the Defender 2's. The Escape came with Michelin Primacy A/S which have been fine for us in the winter here in Michigan. Also looking into the Continental TrueContact 54's as those get high marks all around as well. Since we have a hybrid (also have a 25 AWD Hybrid Mav) we're looking for something that won't hurt our mpg's either.

For what it's worth: the Defender 2s have more tread depth than the cross climates and a longer mileage warranty. Also, the Tremor has a twin clutch rear drive unit which helped considerably with snow.

Mastercraft Courser Trail. Good for a little bit of everything including snow and not crazy expensive. A budget-friendly all-terrain tire with a 3-Peak Mountain Snowflake certification for winter driving. Has a 60,000-mile limited manufacturer tread life warranty. Currently using these and really like them.

I went with Toyo Open Country A/T III. I wanted an off-road look, but they are also quiet on the highway, and my truck drives like a snowmobile in the Minnesota snow. Toyo
