Ecoboost 2.0, a month old and makes this noise:

I don't know the octane rating, or the quality, for the full tank of gas that the dealer gave me. I've filled it up last week with 89 octane gas, but it still makes noise. I've seen a number of similar description of this noise to mine.

In those cases, the noise was traced back to the fuel-injection system; is the engine noise on mine also fuel-injection related?

If it is, would 92 octane gas alleviate this noise?
TIA...

Is there anything that would help minimizing this noise?

That’s what it’s going to sound like no matter what octane 😉 yes all ecoboost maverick’s make this noise.

Thx...

The paint shaker noise is really close to the EB engine; I really should've got the Ridgeline, but they only had black color that I don't like.

Great!! I thought I had a rocker arm problem. Now I know they all sound like this. Really only a nuisance when the hood is open. In the truck I don't really notice it. I was worried because I had a 2013 2.0L Ecoboost Escape and it was much quieter and never made a noise like this. Basically same engine but I think the 2013 was a better engine and would probably have delivered the same mileage in this trunk....so not much of an improvement by Ford in 10 years!!

The EB noise doesn't bother me, but my hearing isn't very good. My neighbor however thought I had a diesel.

This is a standard noise for a mechanical high pressure fuel pump. Something to help you understand what is driving the noise, a non direct injected engine like the 2.5 in the hybrid only requires fuel pressure around 40psi for normal operating, this is easily accomplished using a relatively quiet in tank electric fuel pump. The 2.0 Ecoboost with direct injection requires about 2,000psi at the injectors so it uses a high pressure mechanical fuel pump (foam covered part on top of the engine) driven off a cam lobe on one of the camshafts in addition to a normal electric in tank low pressure fuel pump. If you remove the foam cover the noise should in theory get a little louder but it would help confirm our suspicions here and maybe put your mind at ease. Every vehicle with direct injection deals with this noise, some manufacturers go to much greater lengths to subdue the noise, on a no frills vehicle like the Maverick Ford spent that money in more important areas.

Well, Ford certainly didn't spend "that money" on speakers, among other things... 😏

It's certainly a very "mechanical" sounding engine, for lack of a better term.
