It does look better... When I pop the hood it doesn't look like an unfinished engine bay like it did when new. So, probably a bit of a placebo effect for me.... it looks nicer, so it must sound nicer? LOL...Looks good! %100 it looks better, or maybe more accurately, it looks like it should. It is obvious to me that the missing sound and heat insulators are nothing more than cost savings on Ford's part. Kind of like the way badging other than the Blue Oval has been slowly disappearing from each subsequent model year. What is the p/n for the Ford Engine Cover? ThanksMy last vehicle being a whisper quiet, port injection, Acura V6 the first time I cold started my brand new Maverick I just about had a heart attack. I thought the valve train was self destructing. I was ready to drive straight back to the dealership and make a fool of myself. Luckily I remembered one of the many dozens of reviews I read and watched mentioned a “slight” injector noise. I did a lot more reading and figured I was hearing normal direct injection racket. I never noticed it on any test drives but I think the sales rep had always warmed up the engine beforehand. I found a very few reviews that even mentioned the high pressure fuel pump as being exceptionally noisy. I guess it bothers some people more than others.
Long story short. I did take it back to the dealership and they agreed it did seem to be louder than usual. They replaced the HPFP as a warranty item but the noise level was about the same. I wish I had thought to ask them to replace the cam follower.
I thought I would share my partial solution to my non problem, problem for anyone else bothered by the God awful racket the 2.0 ecoboost makes. It still sounds like an industrial sewing machine but it no longer makes my stomach drop on cold starts.
The engine cover, of course, was first. That took the edge off. Then I added the Maxzina hood mat which made little to no difference on its own but I added a self adhesive 1/4” thick closed cell foam backing cut to match the mat and additional fastening points. That took the sound down a little more A word of warning about the hood mat. DO NOT USE the supplied fasteners for the bottom left and right attachment points. THEY ARE TOO LONG and will push through the top of the hood. I found out the hard way and it cost me $150 for PDR. I haven’t seen this anywhere before but I added a cowl insulation pad from the Bronco Sport sound isolation package. I had to drill four small holes to attach it with plastic rivets. I think it looks good like it belongs. Pictures below. Not pictured are the fender insulation pads on both sides and the “energy absorber” that goes above them. I will probably add closed cell foam to the back of the cowl insulation
at some point. I have spent a stupid amount of time and money trying to hush up the direct injection system which I attribute to my initial trauma. I can provide more details if anyone is interested. Thanks for letting me share!
