Update. Forscan brake service modes don't work. Only modes that work are

-Assembly test (only does it once though
- release parking brake
- engage parking brake

All the rest fail and give me an error code

It has been confirmed that ForScan does not work.

Only way to do it is through FDRS and FORD knows it. They don't care. We may be the 1% that actually still change out own brake pads...

It is a service bulletin, but it will never go any farther than that. Too much profit for them to actually allow people to do their own maintenance.

Overall this is the only issue I've had with my Maverick, but it's a pretty big one. I'm not paying someone to service my own brakes. It was $120 for the rears because of this issue and I provided the pads. Ridiculous.

I have zero trust for low men on the totem pole doing brake/oil jobs at shops.

Being in Canada it's 350 - 700$ to have the rears serviced .....

Looked though the forums.....
Looks like the Ford escape and bronco sport are having similar issues.

I unplug the park brake sensor, make sure it’s not applied, then take the 2 screws holding the electronic part on the the caliper , it just pulls off then, turn the indented star part on the caliper with a screw driver clockwise till it stops then push the piston in like a normal caliper put the electronic top back on plug it in after putting new pads and caliper back on and done, I do this on all electric park brake cars it’s easier then using the scan tool or the dash, works on all cars but Lexus .
Just to clarify, have you done this with your maverick?

So I did my rear brakes today (have it posted on another thread). I was able to wind back the caliper with the parking brake motor attached but unplugged.

And disconnecting battery before doing the rear pads does nothing ?
How would parking brake get applied?

I'd be more worried about the pressurized system failing to re-engage after you are done than the brake being applied while working. If this was an older vehicle and that risk did not exist, i.e., bleed the whole system and back to normal, then yea. But the brake service mode would disable the whole system and save you the risk of air getting trapped in there or a failure to re-engage because force was used when it shouldn't be.

Just my two cents. Others have mentioned that's how they did it. I just don't think it's worth the risk. It's just not a system where bleeding it will solve the issue anymore. This is all kinda new to me. I'm not a fan of the electronic parking brake system at all for these reasons.

I've always disconnected the battery and proceeded with the brake job as normal.
Done this on 2 Fusions with electric park brake and my Escape Hybrid with its funky electric brake booster.
Haven't had a problem yet, suspect will be the same with a Maverick.

My ‘23 has the service mode problem…won’t work with Forscan, any scan tool, or the switch/pedal procedure. Changed the rear brakes today - disconnected caliper electronics, turned the piston back into the caliper, put it all back together and cleared the ABS codes at the end. It worked just fine.
