thank you for the information and pictures. I was hoping information would be brought up soon, not because I need pads. Infact just got the truck 5 days ago.

I can do the mechanical work you described. But didn't know a computer was needed.
Is that a necessity. What do I need other then the laptop?

I don't know what forscan is. What do I need other then the laptop to do what you did?
I have an obd 11 and my phone i installed called Torque to communicate to the obd 11.
Sorry down with the flu. If you do a couple of Google searches it will get you running with forscan.

thanks for reply, get well soon, very soon. I saw the ford escape rear brake job included within the post. No computer used when he was doing the ford edge.

Can't wait to see a video done on the ford maverick. hopefully soon, was considering buying an extended warranity based upon something that could come up expensive.

Btw . If you want to put it on maintence mode its really simple dont need the scaner to do it. If you want i can show you tomorrow today im tired lol
I would love to see how that is done without computer or scanner. And if you meant "show", meaning video, how wonderful would that be. I won't get my hopes up too high.

Then I would feel the job is in my ball park.
I can do the mechanical part that was in pictures and on the ford edge video within the post, but buying a laptop, and software etc. is beyond me.

The guy in the video within in post didn't do anything with the computer, he just showed paper work on how to release the electric brake from doing some that could cause harm. I didn't see him even release a harness connection.

I'm at the point where I need to do this and I have a couple of questions -

#1 - The tools I keep seeing referenced in posts for pushing the piston back in - is this necessary? I have the old school version and the way I've always done it for 30 years was you just put the old brake pad between the clamp and piston before screwing the clamp to push it back in. What is the special part of this tool? My tool is old school. (I have the 1990 version of this)

#2 - It seems like the EPB disable is just a safety thing and not something that actually has anything to do with changing brake pads. It seems like all the steps can be done without disabling it using the special procedure, from the warnings it sounds like they are more worried that something could happen if it started working while you are doing the brake job, like it could accidentally engage and cut of a finger, etc. So by just unplugging it you basically preventing any danger and no need to do the whole disable process?

I have a 2022 Eco Lariat with an electric parking brake (EPB). Ford requires(?) that the brake fluid be flushed at 3 years so this may apply to anyone with a 2022. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to use the Brake Maintenance Mode procedure (above) to deactivate the system multiple times. On further research I discovered that there is a Special Services Message (SSM51217) from Ford that says some 2022 Mavericks do not respond to this procedure and requires the use of a diagnostic scan tool.
Question:
Can anyone recommend an inexpensive scan tool to connect to a laptop that will work to deactivate/activate the Brake Maintenance Mode on a 2022 Maverick Eco Lariat with EPB?

Thank you in advance for your help

I flushed the brake fluid on my '22 hybrid without going into brake service mode. Didn't do the ABS flush, just the main lines with a vacuum bleeder. Also had the front calipers off today to check that the pads were free on the carriers without service mode.

Cheers.

My 2023 Tremor is one of the Mavericks that just won't go into "Brake Service mode".

I ordered a set of $40 rear pads from Amazon and followed Nighowl2000's excellent instructions and I replaced my rear pads without the need of placing the truck in "Brake Service Mode".

Just wind-in the the caliper piston clockwise with the brake tool, set in the new pads, reinstall the caliper and then run the forscan "apply and release calibration" program at the end.

Had no dash warning lights to clear - Nothing

Total job took under an hour, including cleanup. Next time probably could do it in under 30 minutes.

The design of the maverick calipers actually make rear pad replacement very easy.

At 33K miles reg service dealer said need rotors and pads in rear, down near metal to metal. Rotors don't look bad from what I can see from the outside. Just got done reading this thread, looks like I won't be buying and doing my own. Normally I would but I'm not good with the electronics and have none of the equipment. I pretty near shit when he said estimate $600. He also said front wear looks uneven, he wants to disassemble, clean & lube, reassemble for $200 more. I don't know any 1st class mechanics around here that might be able to do any of this and maybe upgrade me at the same time for similar money. Missing my 30 year old Taco at this point hahaha.

Over 80k on mine, still in spec. Rotors are down, but still in spec. Pads are same, with no measurable taper wear. I would recommend another opinion before you spend any $$, if what the dealer says is true, then you could have a bigger problem. Just my opinion, but that is extremely rapid wear at 33k miles

For reference, from the service manual:

Front min rotor - 25mm
Rear min rotor - 9mm

Pads min - 2mm
Max taper - 3mm in any direction

Any good independent shops near you? Pull wheel and measure rotor thickness and check pad thickness with a gage set.

Brake pad gage set:
Lisle brake gages

If you do need repairs, I wouldn't stress over the whole brake service mode shit show, it's pretty straight-forward per the factory manual, and many here have done pad slaps and rotor replacements as well with no issues reported.

Are the brakes pulsing when you are on them hard? Does it pull to one side while braking?

Sorry, just trying to help.....
