I still prefer a hand brake for the parking/e-brake. I too have had two or three occasions where I needed that in an emergency, not to mention the fun of using it in a snow covered empty parking lot. But, that was all years and years ago. Modern vehicles just don’t have the same issues of mid-seventies cars.

I do recommend that with every vehicle, manual, automatic, or eCVT, that you ALWAYS engage the parking brake before putting the vehicle in Park. That one inch roll that you feel when placing the vehicle in Park is actually the transmission stopping the movement. This put a lot of unwanted stress on the transmission, regardless of what time it is.
We live on an island serviced by a ferry. It amazes me the number of people who done use the parking brake. With any kind of weather other than flat calm you see the moving back and forth.
i do miss a manual emergency brake as they used to be called.

You are not arguing wit me. I agree that you should apply the parking (emergency) brake first to prevent the parking pawl from locking up. It is a good practice.

I grew up on the Monongahela river valley where such a practice was a necessity.

I must admit that now that I live in South Texas, where the only hill is an ant hill, I sometimes don't use the parking brake.
It's worth mentioning I engage the electric parking brake with the eCVT in "N" and my foot on the brake pedal. Then I release my foot and put the Maverick weight on the e-parking brake. Then I press the brake pedal again and shift into "P". Then I release my foot to end it.

When leaving, with my foot on the brake, I first shift into R/D, then I release the e-brake. I make sure auto hold is off, then foot off to roll. It is in the owners manual to only operate the e-brake with the car in gear. I also only turn the steering wheel when the wheels are in slight motion.
