Are anybody experiencing the use of such system and performing well?
Really reacts as it is promised?
Can it be safely tested?
Appreciate in advance.
Rgds.

I have had mine go off a few times but mainly for cars in front of me who were turning left or right and were taking their time getting in the turn lane. I will say this, they werent that close and in some instances they were already out of my way. I've never seen it go off for any other reason. This is my first time having something like this so I have no idea if it's normal. I'm too chicken to try and drive up to a barrier and cross my fingers.

I've got the base XLT w/ 4kT and have the system go off at times. It's odd in that it seems to need a pretty niche set of circumstances to actually alert: lighting, speed, angle of approach, etc, all seem to cause the system to either react really early like during a lane change in rush hour traffic (~40mph highway) or really late like when the driver in front of you decides they need to turn RIGHT NOW.

Had it since June, roughly 6k miles so far, and had it go off maybe a dozen times? I genuinely forgot it existed until I had someone going 50mph suddenly braking to 10mph to make an immediate turn the other day.

This happened to me once too. The vehicle opposite of me set off the precollision warning when we started our left turns at green. I can't be sure but I think it was one of those behemoth lifted trucks that probably caused the sensors/camera to react to its large profile.

Ditto.

Dear All:
Many thanks for sharing your experiences. Finally my last question is regarding to the automatic braking if really works or not or just acting in a warning mode.
Osvaldo.

Was riding with wife with acc active about 60-65mph car in front suddenly slowed to turn right. Wife attempted to change lanes but had someone coming up real fast in blind spot. She said steering wouldn't let her change lanes, dash lit up red and hard brakes (did not leave skid marks, I think) but she couldn't tell me if car braked before she did. About time we almost stopped car in front completed turn. I assume everything worked like it should and possibly computer was in control of braking?

You’re not meant to be able to “test” this. If it were that sensitive, the car would be basically unusable.

IIHS tests these systems and they work quite well in most cars these days. The Civic, on which our current Integra is based, avoided collisions with pedestrians and vehicles at all speeds they tested it at. All on its own without human involvement.

The Maverick hasn’t been tested just yet, but I expect it will perform well. Poor ratings these days are something manufacturers try to avoid.. and the IIHS is forever moving the goal posts to keep them making cars safer and safer.

Just came across this post while searching for "Active Braking".

I've had my Hybrid XLT for almost 6 months now and I've experienced these very same issues.
Like some of the posters above, I noticed the "red" flashing pre-collision assist warning light several times when the vehicle in front of me slammed on brakes and made a sudden right (or left) turn.
My initial reaction was to simply apply the brakes anyway because the warning indicator gave me plenty of warning and I wasn't going to take any chances that the Mav would brake on it's own.
(For the record, I never drive with Active Braking engaged)

That being said, I had the same question as the OP....does the pre-collision assist actually apply brakes if necessary to avoid a collision , so after some time consuming research, I found a possible answer posted on a Ford Dealer website but was unable to verify/confirm their statement.....

The "Pre-Collision Assist System" cannot be disabled, but you can choose to disable the "Active Braking" feature.

Toggle Active Braking on or off from the console.

With Active Braking disabled, the Ford Pre-Collision Assist will notify you when a collision risk is detected but will not assist in braking to avoid a collision.

I tried reaching out to FoMoCo for clarification but they cannot tell me if this is true or not since IIHS has not tested the Maverick. Seems odd that they wouldn't know how their system works or was intended to work and whether or not it can or cannot be disabled.

I will update this post if I ever hear back from Ford.

this really depends on your local driving conditions as well as how defensively or aggressively you drive. if you drive defensively in a low-density traffic area you might not ever have precollision braking engage when it's actually necessary and instead you might only have it triggered in error, like a large plastic bag blowing across the road.

if you drive somewhere pretty busy like chicago or atlanta, the traffic density is so high that it's probably going to trigger often if you have it enabled. maybe it would trigger falsely, or maybe it will save you. I could easily see a person getting rear-ended because the truck decided to brake really hard and the person behind you didn't anticipate it or they were just following too closely.

I've never driven in Paris but I've visited and it's absolute mayhem. I think it'll be a long time before automatic braking and especially fully autonomous systems can deal with that type of traffic. there are draft proposals for technology-enabled cars to share traffic information and I think that would be necessary to have everything work smoothly in concert. when that happens, driving yourself will be really expensive to insure because the machines won't hardly ever make mistakes like a human will.

Keep in mind, the safety features on the vehicle are designed to protect you, not the vehicle. This included. I've had the system in the Escape fire off a few times for the people taking their time turning, but I've never gotten close to hitting anyone. But I don't drive that way. I wouldn't say I drive defensively; I drive purposefully. There is no purpose in running right up someone's bumper at high speed.

I hate to rain on someone's parade, but if you had this activate several times, you may want to look at your following distance????  I may be mistaken (again!!) but I believe the recommended following distance is now three seconds, up from two seconds which was the recommendation for many years. Must admit I still use the two seconds....., most of the time.

I understand that if someone really cuts in front of you it may activate.

It has a fairly long warning range. No sense warning you of something you don't have time to do anything about. If you are approaching a vehicle that is not moving and you aren't pressing the break, it will signal because it believes you will not stop in time without intervention.

For me, it only fires when I come up on someone who is making a right turn and decides to come to a full stop in the driving lane to do it despite not actually needing to do so. Since the predicted behavior is for them to roll into that turn, I do get a little closer than my Escape likes by the time I start hitting the brake and fussing at them.

Perhaps you should replace the word "prediction" with "assumption"!! Assumptions usually get me into trouble. I once assumed the person ahead of me would go when the light turned green. He did not and I tapped him. I now leave some distance before I even proceed to follow the car ahead of me when the light turns green.
