I have found that mine does that too, but I think it's only on inclines.
Yes, the 2025s automatically engage the parking brake on an incline. I checked a 2022 at the job, and it does not do it automatically. I imagine the roll away can happen if the vehicle is on a very minimal incline and it slowly rolls. If it rolls fast enough, I know that on most vehicles, the parking brake will engage when they detect movement and the car is turned off. When we push a vehicle of this type that won't run, we have to manually take it out of park either under the hood or using a emergency release on some vehicles. Then we have to release the parking brake. Then we have to disconnect the battery, so the parking brake does not re-engage once it detects that the truck is moving.

Story time:

We have friends in Colorado. The guy is a huge Ford fan with a collection of older Ford pickups. One day, we all went for a ride on some steep logging roads in one of his F-250s. I noticed that every time we'd stop he just put the truck in 'Park' without setting the e-brake -- which put a lot of pressure on the pawl. When he'd take it out of park the pawl made a horrible sound as it disengaged.

After he did that a few times, I took him aside and said, "You probably know this but it's a good idea to set the e-brake and put the trans in park while your foot is still on the brake pedal." He said he wasn't worried about it. He continued to just put it in park and not use the e-brake.

After we got back to the house he went to move the truck and the pawl broke loose from its linkage with a loud rattle. He looked at me and I didn't say a word.

The best I told you so is one you don't say a word. But the person gives you that sheepish look that says " yep you were right"

Amazing when the timing works like that.
Those moments are very few and far between.

BTW - You should have gotten the "I could have but didn't do the "I told you so" award.

I wonder if the event changed his behavior, but at least it did on that F-250, as park became only a indicator difference from neutral..

"New vehicles are electronic devices that happen have a vehicle wrapped around them." That was a quote from an automotive design & testing software conference almost 10 years ago.
I often refer to current model vehicles as a cellphone with wheels, as especially in the 25 Mav Hybrid, the truck has almost as many apps...

I've done that by accident a couple of times while going about 1mph backwards. I was going down my driveway looking back and missed reverse and went to park with the rotary shifter knob. I've been more careful since then.
But. I still miss my manual break lever between the seats. Never had a problem with it in the past.

The beauty of this is that until the recall is performed you just have to engage the parking brake every time. So if you're in the habit of doing this already, you don't have to change anything you do. Otherwise just remind yourself to engage the parking brake. It also seems as if Ford will be releasing and over the air update for those who allow it. But if it does not come quickly enough. Or if you don't allow over the air updates, you can bring it in to the dealership once forward releases it to us. Probably the best time to do it for those who allow the dealer to change your oil is to have it done at that time. However, we don't have the update available just yet. In fact, the recall it's not listed yet. I imagine it would be listed on Monday when we get to work
Till something happens with that e-brake.

If you have a 2022, it doesn't engage automatically. If you have a 2025, it does engage automatically on an incline
That explains it, then. Thank you. By the way, I checked the 2022 manual and it confirms your post. Not that I didn't take your word for it, but to save others from verifying.

and there are no known examples of any of these vehicles rolling away.

Everyone should read the actual recall .

Some highlights:

  1. This began in July when a single MachE threw a code during inspection at the plant. Shifting it back into drive and then park clears the problem. When additional MachEs did the same thing Ford asked the manufacturer of the Integrated Park Module (IPM) to tear down and inspect the part from one of these MachEs and found "no evidence of a mechanical issue"
  2. When the same code showed up on a couple Mavericks rolling off the line in Hermosillo, Ford did it's own investigation with "an X-ray of a transmission removed from the vehicle showed the IPM pawl physically bound with the IPM slide".
  3. Ford did additional computer modeling to understand the conditions that could lead to the IPM binding up and is updating the software to better detect and correct the condition.

There are only 22 Mach-E, 4 Maverick, and 16 F-150 Lightning warranty claims that might be related to this problem. Numbers to keep in mind when you read clickbait headlines about 270,000 vehicles recalled.
Thank you!

The result is that vehicles operate more seamlessly than they did beforehand. Most of the time we simply enjoyed the benefit with the electronic processes working in the background. It's only when there's a problem that we complain. No problem. I check behind my OWN self sometimes in order to make sure I know what I'm talking about. So I'm definitely not offended when someone else checks behind me 😅

We think that cars automatically going in the park when we shut them off or open the door is unnecessary nanny.... Until WE do something stupid that thought we were too smart to do. A couple of years ago I went by to see my then 88 year old aunt who had been very sick. I was surprised to see her walking outside with her daughter. I was so excited that I shut the car off, opened the door, and jumped out to give her a hug. Well.. my cousin yelled "the car, the car, the car.! " My car was rolling towards her's and bumped into it before I could stop it. It put a visible scratch on her MERCEDES bumper. I agreed to pay out of pocket, so I wouldn't have to file an insurance claim thinking it would be a couple of hundred dollars. The cheapest estimate was about 800.00! A computer controlled shifter would have saved me 800.00. 😤

Well bring on the OTA update. I am just figuring out the climate control system. You say there is a parking break? What will they think of next? 🤔🤔🤔
