Because people were clamoring for auto-hold ability, and when the hill is steep enough the EPB provides extra assurance you won't roll back until ready to move.
Or for EB's it is the hold method I'd think with a vacuum booster.

Then that made it possible to do the hill-assist ability, also possibly needing the EPB if steep enough.

Also protecting drivers not doing their parking/exit vehicle sequence in best order to prevent injuries - so let's protect the few.

Oh, and since it's there, can also ruin the fun factor in snow using the manual parking brake lever.

And, can also raise the adrenalin rush if the wheel brakes ever do go out, and you wonder if your jerking up on a little lever will really help or break the plastic.

Let's see, what else...
The electric parking brake is a pita, one more thing to complicate and fail. On the rare occasions I needed to hold on a hill I had no problems working the clutch, throttle and hand brake in tandem, a lost skill I guess.
Never had the manual brake fail but I do miss doing "Bat Turns" in the snow.

Another reason to justify a 12v jump starter with an on/off switch installed in cab. Call the cost unused (hopefully) insurance for many other things also.
I guess it's good to have some form of backup. I just keep a jump box under my back seat. But that's mainly because I'm a mechanic. And I sometimes need to jump start other people. More convenient than jumper cables. 😅

what I don't understand is people seemingly incapable of setting the PB themselves instead of expecting the vehicle to do everything for them, down hill? turn the front wheels into the curb so it acts as a chock, uphill? turn wheels away from the curb so it roll that way. no curb? turn the wheels so if it did get loose it would go the shortest distance at the slowest speed before it came to a stop, IE a tree, rock, building.
You must have had Drivers Ed when it was still an offered class in High School. I still use what I learned from those classes. And, I might ad, I still use all 3 mirrors when parking, going in reverse, or merging into traffic.

Love the 85 Mustang GT's if it's a 5 speed Manual? If so it's the only Year with the Holley 4 barrel, Hydraulic Roller Cam and Factory Headers!! That will be a cool car for Shelby to drive how old is She?

Yup, it's a 5 speed with 27,000 original miles! Don't forget the "dual speed" serpentine belt system. Shelby turns 20 next month. She loves her Fiero GT, but realized while at a track event Mustang is the only way to go. I couldn't be happier.

Yup, it's a 5 speed with 27,000 original miles! Don't forget the "dual speed" serpentine belt system. Shelby turns 20 next month. She loves her Fiero GT, but realized while at a track event Mustang is the only way to go. I couldn't be happier.
If she wants to track that Mustang, I hope you're aware that you absolutely HAVE to upgrade the brakes

I've seen so many of those Fox bodies go off after running out of brakes with little to no warning. Also the front suspension is marginal at best

If she wants to track that Mustang, I hope you're aware that you absolutely HAVE to upgrade the brakes

I've seen so many of those Fox bodies go off after running out of brakes with little to no warning. Also the front suspension is marginal at best
We'll start out at shows and see where it leads us. It put Hawk street pads in my '89 and it helped. I just don't want to change too much hardware on all original, low mileage car.

The Maverick is my daily driver, but I also keep a 2006 Sti in the garage. Ill drive it on some Fridays if the weather is decent as I slowly run through a restomod of sorts.
