I always use the parking brake no matter the location. Just an extra level of safety. No issues except I have no indication if it engages automatically if the truck is on an incline. Brake light on dash does not illuminate.

The “trick” is to set your parking brake before you lift your foot off the brake. Your Maverick will stay motionless then.

That roll you feel is the automatic transmission finding a pawl to stop the truck. It is not good for the transmission - putting the weight of the truck on something that is not made to be a brake.
I've felt the transmission give an extra "kick" that jolts the vehicle going into Park, regardless of the pedal and parking brake engagement. With 40 years driving other vehicles, this seems weird and bad.

More than a certain angle hill, or if it gets knock or a couple of people leaning on it, it might start the pawl skipping.
Just use the parking brake. If on an incline of any consequence it engages automatically. I wouldn't be surprised if the reprogramming makes it the parking brake automatically when shifting into Park. They've done that for other vehicles.

and there are no known examples of any of these vehicles rolling away.

Everyone should read the actual recall .

Some highlights:

  1. This began in July when a single MachE threw a code during inspection at the plant. Shifting it back into drive and then park clears the problem. When additional MachEs did the same thing Ford asked the manufacturer of the Integrated Park Module (IPM) to tear down and inspect the part from one of these MachEs and found "no evidence of a mechanical issue"
  2. When the same code showed up on a couple Mavericks rolling off the line in Hermosillo, Ford did it's own investigation with "an X-ray of a transmission removed from the vehicle showed the IPM pawl physically bound with the IPM slide".
  3. Ford did additional computer modeling to understand the conditions that could lead to the IPM binding up and is updating the software to better detect and correct the condition.

There are only 22 Mach-E, 4 Maverick, and 16 F-150 Lightning warranty claims that might be related to this problem. Numbers to keep in mind when you read clickbait headlines about 270,000 vehicles recalled.
Here we go again. A bunch of panic 😂. A lot of people don't realize that 1. Some issues resulting in recalls do occur on a significant number of vehicles. But even the recalls that cover a boatload of vehicles often are issued if even 2 or 3 have reported the problem. 2. If anyone is scared. Just use your parking brake. We should always use it anyway. Maybe this will be the incentive that gets us into the habit of doing so.

If you have a 2022, it doesn't engage automatically. If you have a 2025, it does engage automatically on an incline

I hate when the recalls are released to the public before they even give us a heads-up. 25C69 is not even listed on our tech page yet. By the way, a good practice is to simply always apply the parking brake. I wouldn't be surprised if the update also did that. Ford has added that feature on at least one other models in their software update in the past

@Oscarbaron the parking pawl may be mechanical but is probably electronically controlled.
True. But it's default position is ENGAGED. It takes battery power to disengage it. There's spring loaded tension trying to engage it. If everything falls, it will engage unless their is a mechanical fault. If All battery power suddenly fails, it will engage by default. I'm thinking the software update will have the effect of jiggling a key to make it unlock.

I don't understand the worry of it rolling away, the vehicle goes into park and will not roll away in park. I have not used a parking brake in any of my cars over decades and have never had any issues. I know you depend on the pin prawl locking it however the parking brake is not an issue of it rolling away.
Per the OP the recall is to fix the vehicles failing to lock in the Park position allowing then to roll away on a jont of their own.

Will be curious about this one. FWIW, mine auto-sets the parking brake when I switch into “park” on most any degree of incline.
I have found that mine does that too, but I think it's only on inclines.

The beauty of this is that until the recall is performed you just have to engage the parking brake every time. So if you're in the habit of doing this already, you don't have to change anything you do. Otherwise just remind yourself to engage the parking brake. It also seems as if Ford will be releasing and over the air update for those who allow it. But if it does not come quickly enough. Or if you don't allow over the air updates, you can bring it in to the dealership once forward releases it to us. Probably the best time to do it for those who allow the dealer to change your oil is to have it done at that time. However, we don't have the update available just yet. In fact, the recall it's not listed yet. I imagine it would be listed on Monday when we get to work

So how do we tell if our actual VIN# is part of the recall?
You wait. That is the way of recalls. But based on the language in the recall, all 2025s (and maybe some 2026s?), plus any 2024 built after Apr 11, 2024 are going to get the OTA update.

Details and notification that your truck is included in the recallwill be available for a few weeks. The steps are
  1. NHTSA notification & press release (you are here)
  2. several weeks go by
  3. shows up in the app and/or when you enter your vin Ford Recall website
  4. several weeks (for software) or months (for hardware) go by
  5. OTA update of software or parts made available to dealers
