Like many people who have received their Maverick, I followed the suggestion of getting the "alien blood" oil changed out by 1800 miles. Took a road trip shortly thereafter and changed the oil again at around 3500, again at 8500, and then preemptively early at around 12500 miles for another road trip (done at a quickie shop) and they put me due at 15,100 miles but I'm at 15,800 and showing 63% oil life remaining.

Should I go ahead and get the oil changed or can I wait a bit longer and stretch it for the full 5000 miles in between changes?

Thank you for your suggestions.

Alien blood isn't harmful, ask any alien.
If oil was reset at last oil change, don't sweat it and drive

You don't need to change the oil every 5k. I would go longer and base it on the oil minder.
I think I had my Honda's oil changed every 5000-7500 miles depending on semi or full synthetic oil, and the minder light would come on typically around 15-20% oil life.

How does the computer know remaining oil life? Is it simply a mileage counter that must be reset each oil change?

Oil life monitors track climate, driving habits and other conditions. The algorithm calculates mileage, idle time, engine temperatures, trip times, engine loads, and ignition starts and stops. It then establishes an oil change interval as low as 3,000 miles (4,800 km) and all the way up to 10,000 miles (16,000 km) and more depending on severity of conditions.

I believe time since last change as well, I think there was a post here where the life dropped to 0% at exactly 365 days.
