I have seen many post replys say something like: "Since the 2.5 hybrid engine is not running when the truck is in electric mode, the miles on the engine is< the odometer miles; and therefore you do not need to change the oil so often" . That seems to be logical; but the hybrid engine is constantly stopping and starting (even at stop lights). Don't think these are cold starts for the most part; but is that an issue ,or am I overthinking ? Comments/ your thoughts?
I would just change the oil at the same time you always do. if thats 5K or 7k or 10k I would do the same. I don't want to get into how many miles.Just what ever you would normally on a plain gas car.

I suspect Ford had figured all of the variables in when programming the oil change minder. I would use it for guidance.

Once you see an engine that's all varnished up because the oil was not changed often enough the extended oil changes don't look like such a good idea.
But if your not going to keep the truck long then it's somebody else's problem.

I changed factory oil at 2500 miles on my hybrid, and will continue to do it sooner than Ford recommends.
Personally i change my oil every 3000 miles on all my vehicles.including my maverick!been doing this all my life and at 73 not stopping now.
I did all my oil change too. Now 76, had to stop my own changes couple years ago. Age creepHave all tools, jacks, support stands. Having few EPA moments in driveway no fun. My F250 diesel tough to do, with 13 qts oil making big mess.
I now go to a quick oil change biz, let them get the dirty hands, mess. I look for discounts coupons, apply them.

My sons do theirs, using my tools, stuff.

First change 1000 to 3000 miles and then every 5000 miles after that that’s the severe duty rating for Ford and that’s the best schedule to follow

I changed the oil at around 5,000 miles. I took a sample and got an oil analysis on it. The analysis showed elevated particles of iron, copper, boron, and silicon in the oil, which is typical for a new engine. The analysis also showed a higher than average Molybdenum, which is good. It also showed some fuel in the oil, so I am glad I changed it when I did. The analysis suggested doing the next oil change at 7,000 miles. I will do the oil change at 7,000 miles and do another analysis.

Pretty interesting information but it is a bit pricey at $35, almost the cost of the oil and filter.

Google Drive link to the analysis

You should ask your sons to change your oil.

Ha! Never thought if that. #2 son is a diesel mechanic. He’s 4 hrs away from home. Oldest…hum, forget it. Youngest changes his car, but I never asked him to do ours.

Anyway, I go to a Ford Quick Change, sit n surf quietly while spreading the wealth.

Quick oil change shops are cheaper but be cautious...they are often sloppy and careless.

Aware. Had fuel filter change on my F250 diesel at a Ford dealer. When returned to me, smelled diesel. Look under, seen diesel spilling on ground from filter. Turns out young fella cracked housing.

Another incident…boss with company vehicle had oil changed. When he drove off, vehicke stopped <1/4 mile. They dud out fresh oil in the engine!

I always ask - are your people technically qualified? I will be watching, check your work before I take delivery.

Watching is best. If they are not, don't think they would admit it. If you find a good one; i'd stick with them.

I always have my oil changed at a dealer. Costs more, but they will stand behind their staff and they train them. Those oil change places on the corner? Did you ever see the same employee twice? Turnover is crazy. If you ever have a problem with a dealer, go one step up and call regional. No dealer wants you to call them. Makes them look bad. I have a great dealer and I know they will always treat me well.
