Once again. If you have sold a used car (at an iflated value) and are bitching about the mark up at dealerships, you are a hypocrite.

Nobody forces you to pay a stupid price for a vehicle. The marketplace is what it is. Grow up.
It's harder to say what a "fair" price is on a used car. No one makes used cars. They made so many of that model that year and it's over. New cars on the other hand have an MSRP. So it's really obvious when you are paying too much.

Everyone is talking about dealerships gouging people and making huge profits, but from what I've heard, dealerships have been making next to nothing on car sales for years. They're making much/most of their profits on services afterwards (oil changes, tire rotations, 30,000 mile checkups, modifications,...etc).

I've heard this from 2 sources: one was a Ford Salesman (take it with a grain of salt), and the other was a friend's daughter who was working at a Toyota dealership (not as a salesman).

IF (and that's a big "if") that's true, could this be the beginning of a market correction where dealerships once again start making money on car sales and not just on services provided afterwards?

That's not true. They receive all the rebates from the manufacturer and they have hold back if they sell the car in a timely fashion vs sitting on the lot for months. Plus the get kickbacks from the banks they use to finance most of the customers.

Hope it bites them in the ass and people keep cars longer. They will start stocking them when people get tired of ordering and waiting. Especially since chip shortage won’t be forever.
Chip shortage won’t be resolved overnight either. It’s gonna be a long ride.

To me these prices are good news. I paid $29,500 out the door for my XLT 2.0 EcoBoost. I think this will be the last truck I will ever buy. It should last as long I do. Love this truck. At least once a week somebody ask me about the Maverick, always good things to say. If you're near Cincinnati, Northgate Ford was great to work with. No problems with ordering or delivery. I'll be taking it back there for all service.

Great news! My local Carmax has two good-looking Mavericks for sale, an XL AWD and a Lariat AWD.
The not so good news?
Tax and all, the pair is going to set you back about $88,000
$39,700 for the XL.
$48,300 for the Lariat.

The Ford dealers in the area mark them up even more.
Thank goodness for @Granger Ford

On a more positive note, enjoyed taking a thorough look at both, as it's been awhile since I test drove one, and it made me even more excited to get my truck once it's built. I have a bare bones XL EB FWD, so checking out the XL vs. the Lariat made me feel great about my decision. Nothing wrong with all the bells and whistles on the Lariat, but I have always preferred cloth seats and love the simple interior colors of the XL. Coming from a 2006 Element, the Mav has a ton of features. A 2022 base model isn't base to me at all. Adjusted the driver's seat to my liking and can sit behind myself as well. Plenty of room for our 3-person family.

One good thing about checking them out on the lot at Carmax is you get to check out all the other mid-sized trucks, and I can honestly say at 6'4", I'm so much more comfortable in a Mav than a 2022 Frontier, Tacoma, Ranger, or Colorado. Idk if it's something about the angle of the roof or how the seat sits or what, but there's no comparison for me. And it's about 20 times easier for my wife, who is 5'2", to climb in and out of. Pumped to get my hands on a Mav!

FWD 2.0 will be a burnout champ😉
We have a 2.0 Escape with the 6 speed and it’s a cheeky monkey 🙈

I order fwd eco boost xl with only a hitch from granger. I haven't got a build. I order last day. What color did you choose
Mine is a fwd eco lariat in Velocity Blue, with absolutely no added options. Ordered next to last day on 1/26/22. Haven’t heard a thing yet. Only know that dealer and Fordchat both tell me the order was approved.

I can't help but smile when I read the tales told on this forum about the appreciating values of the Mavericks. Buying my Maverick is the first and likely the last time I purchase a vehicle that I didn't suffer massive immediate depreciation in value. I did keep my 2000 Ranger XLT for 21 years and sold it for more than I purchased it for. Rare !
Enjoy your Mavericks folks !

It's been said by more than one manufacturer. I know Mercedes and GM for sure have said the days of lots of inventory are over, regardless of chip availability. They plan to keep inventory low to keep prices up.
That makes no sense for a car manufacturer. They set the MSRP, so keeping inventory low only helps the dealer make more money. Manufacturers make money on volume sold, not inventory.

Manufacturers are saving boatloads of cash not needing to throw thousands per unit on rebates.

I’m sorry but I must have missed the manufacturer’s rebates? Most have done away with 0 financing, and at best offering 1 few oil changes, which I’m sure the dealers are contributing to. Dealers rather you use their local financial companies so they get their kick back.

How the money is made doesn't matter as much as how much is made. History has shown the more widgets you sell the more profit you make.

Manufacturers are not happy about the supply chain shortages even if that does mean fewer rebates offered.

No one said there were rebates widely available on any car currently, but that’s the point. They’re going to manage inventory in the future so they don’t have to put so much cash on the hood to sell the cars.

It is what it is. MSRP will be the new normal for most cars, I would think. Certainly the days when you could get $5-10k off sticker on models is certainly over, I would think.

Manufacturers want to meet demand, but the excess supply we were all used to is a thing of the past.

Would you rather make 5% margin or 15% margin even though you sell half as much?
