I will preface this by saying yes I know you can buy cheap non OEM filters off Amazon. This thread is not about that. This thread is about OEM Motorcraft cabin air filters.

So today I replaced the cabin air filter in my 2022 Maverick with around 18K miles(29K km). I purchased two filters. One was the stock OEM filter that came in the vehicle(FP-100-A)the second filter is Fords premium cabin air filter called micronAir proTect(FPP-89). This filter is a direct replacement for those looking for the fabled Refresh95 cabin air filter.

For those wanting a premium cabin air filter for there Maverick I hope this thread is helpful. I will post links to each filter for those interested. The links are to Fords official parts website but if you punch the numbers into a place like Rock Auto they will be cheaper.

The regular OEM filter weighed in at just 3.7 ounces(105 grams).

The premium filter weighed in at exactly 10 ounces(283 grams). I was really surprised by the difference.

Here is a picture of the premium cabin filter fitting just fine into the Maverick. The lid closed fine I just left it open for the pic.

Bonus pic! Maverick filter sitting on top of a Mach-E filter. They use the exact same filter!

Nice write-up! I opted to put a reusable KN into service, I thought this would be the ideal use for a KN. Now I just wash it out & reuse with each oil change. It's been working great for about 40K miles now, and has paid for itself... 🤠

Changed mine first time at 36,000 miles.

Easy.

Old one did not look bad.
Did have fragments of electrical wire harness friction tape on it though.

I DO think you can Tap, Shake, vacuum or gently blow them off and put them back in. At least city dwellers could.

Added a CHEAP $9.99 charcoal one. Ya. Double the pleats and about triple the weight. Was just a few bucks tariff free.

My house HVAC guy said door run the expensive filters in my heat pump, he said the Hvac isnt an air filtration system its to make the air colder or hotter and that the people who run the HEPA filters and whatnot put undo strain on the system and the point of the filter is to keep crud off the coils.

I realize the cabin is a lot smaller tha a house and I have noticed a decrease in nasty smells and smoke and all that by recirculating the ac however that air still gets run through the filter on recirculating or not but generally speaking all I think a better filter will do is reduce the flow of air and increase the strain on the system and generally you will not be getting "better" air

Thank you for the write up good information.
99% of the time, the windows are closed on my Maverick and 100% time on my wife's Escape with the HVAC systems in use.
I will probably go with the better fpp-89 on my Maverick and I'll find a comparable fpp-89 filter for my wife's Escape.

Agreed ive been driving almost 50 years without a " cabin" filter. I think it's a money grab.
And I think Motocraft oil & filters is a money grab.
And motocraft 75W RDU fluid is a moneygrab...
And Chevron 95octane is a moneygrab
Only WiX is not a money grab

Stop grabbing my money, money grabbers :0

Even if you don't run the a/c, the truck will, if it deems it helpful to lower cabin humidity. Or if you use Defog/defrost mode. The filter protects the blower and most importantly, the air conditioning evap coil from getting clogged. Same as your home HVAC filter(s).
It seems that some people here don’t quite understand that this filters job is more than just to make “you “ breathe better, but yes, protects blower and AC also.

I have found that even the premium aftermarket ones with the activated charcoal (which is what creates most of the added weight) are worth it when you want to keep odors out also. I don't believe these would be marketed by the OEM's if there were problems resistricting airflow. As far having all your windows open, just make sure your HVAC system is shut down so as to not waste your filter. Running with no filter dirties the system IMO.

Three years and I still haven’t replaced mine. Probably should at least pull it out to see how dirty it is.

Considering how many pics I've seen on MTC showing a filter coming out with acorns or other duff on top - it also appears to be a rodent block in some cases.

If no filter had been in place on those pics - the dumb squirrels stashing their nuts or the mice would have gone even further down the line.
Worse problems than dusty motor/coils then?

Have also found the filters, especially with the charcoal odor eaters, very nice to have when one of those big diesels gives you the Rolling Coal treatment or when transiting the local landfill area.

I know the OP says 'this thread is not about that', but I just replaced mine with a 'premium' activated charcoal filter that also weighed 3x as much as the OEM filter for $9 off Amazon. Just sayin.
