The only place I recall seeing it used in in discussions of engines, such as Northstar, which are watching and adjusting for it. It's not, I suppose, a "technical term", but it's a useful handle for what's happens in the transition area between "good" and "bad" areas of operation--particularly by amateurs.I never heard the term pre knock before and I've only been doing this for 40+ years.
