I have a 2025 Maverick XLT AWD 2.0 ecoboost, bought Feb 2025, I live in Pennsylvania that requires auto inspection yearly.
So in Feb 2026 I took it in to have the first inspection ( one year old truck ) the Maverick has ran great and had no issues with it.
the inspection station scanner would not connect to the truck so it failed the test, that is how I found out there is an issue
with the OBII port, Took the truck to Tom Masano Ford Reading Pa for them to check it.
They said that I had installed some after market LED Strip lighting and I have to pay $150 an hour for them to run a Dynastic check,
no estimate on how long it might take. (they would not do it under factory warranty )
I do not see how a simple led strip light could stop the OBII port from working or how it would void the warranty.

Has anybody else had an issue with the OBII port not working? how to fix it?

Pennsylvania law requires the inpection station to give you a printed report whether it passes or fails.
when I took delivery in 2025 there was no inspection report given to me. Said new vehicle's are exempt they just put the sticker on.
Had they done the test then Feb 2025 it would have shown the problem day one or the printed report would have shown it passed
then.
I have disconnected the lights from the truck. it did solve anything, OBII scanner still will not connect to truck.

any help would be appreciated Ron Shoemaker

I think that dealer is playing games with you. Your truck is under warranty and the OBD port needs to be operational.

You can check the back side of the port and make sure the Ford connector is tight/latched.

There have been instances in the past where dealers have installed Lojacks or other inventory control devices without telling customers they are there. The OBD2 wiring under the dash is a common place to pull power from in those installations. I had to remove one from my truck, and they tapped right in to my OBD 12V wire.

You might also describe here how the aftermarket lights were hooked up... Did that work have anything to do with the OBD2 wiring at all? It seems unlikely, but it needs to be ruled out.

Go to an Auto Part store and request they check for any codes to see if they can connect - if they can’t then you haven’t lost anything but a few minutes of your time. If they can then maybe the state inspection station has a faulty scanner Its probably the cheapest place to start the trouble shooting process🤷🏼‍♂️

I have a led strip light in the cargo bed area, ford has a harness pre installed right side aft for 12volt access, black wire to ground red to the 12volt positive side, I also added a led light stip in the engine compartment, black wire to frame bolt and red wire to an inline fuse then to the positive side of the battey. basic hookup, lights work fine, I do not see how they can interfere with the OBII port
I need to have it fixed my inspection sticker expires end of Feb.
depends on what they find if its a warranty claim or on me.

Many newer model vehicles require an OBDII reader with a security pass system to connect. I'm not sure if newer model Mavericks are using that system. If the Maverick does, there may be nothing wrong with the OBDII port, the reader could be the problem.

I would say that rules out the lights having any impact, and reinforces the idea that the dealer you went to is just uncooperative.

Given that, I would look at my and others’ comments about the loose connector or unwanted GPS device.

Do a google search for the location of a fuse for the OBD port. Or Fords online manual search. My Trailblazer would blow the fuse for the OBD port and the reader wouldn't work.

Per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(c)) I believe the onus is on the dealer to prove your wiring caused the port to fail. Those 12v power plugs in the bed are made to be used by lighting and such. You can ask for their "proof" in writing, so you can take matters to Ford Owner Support. It may prompt them to fix the problem under warranty. Good Luck!

Hi Ronald,
I‘m also having trouble connecting to the OBDII port successfully.
When I plug in either of my Bluetooth OBDII scanners in an effort to Bluetooth the RPM to my Android phone and use with the DragFX or RevHeadz engine sound apps to send the real-time RPM motor sounds to the sound system through a “C-type" cable.
Facts:
- The “C-type" cable connection from the Android phone to the sound system functions as I am able to use the DragFX or RevHeadz engine sound apps successfully without receiving the real-time RPM from the OBDII port.
- When I connect the diagnostic scanner that I successfully use in my older vehicles, it can’t connect to the Maverick. I checked the scanner manufacturer’s site and discovered I need to download an update but haven‘t yet.
- The OBDII scanner power light comes on when plugged into the OBDII port and connects to the Android phone as the RevHeadz app begins to connect but ends in a message of failure to connect. The DragFX shows no sign of connecting.
If you have a OBDII scanner and would be willing to try it on your Maverick that would be incredible.
There are many YouTube instruction videos.
Mystery unsolved, suggestions welcomed.

I just now saw, looks like you have power on your OBD scan tool, so the following is not going to help you, sorry!

Was not aware Ford and some others have a OBD fuse. From AI,
Yes, newer Ford trucks have fuses dedicated to the OBDII (Data Link Connector) port, which are often shared with the cigarette lighter or auxiliary power point circuits. If your scanner has no power, check the interior fuse panel for labels such as "OBD," "DLC," or "Point". For instance, 2018-2019 F-250s may use interior fuse #3 (20A) or #13/#15.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your input. I haven’t checked the fuse because, like you alluded to I have power. My next step is to update my diagnostic scan tool and see if I can get that connect and read the rpm.
Thank you,
Larry
