This a follow up on my post about a dead battery in my 22 XLT https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...ally-happened-to-me.59151/page-4#post-1040080
that deserves a thread of its own.

Today I went to pick up the Mav and was told that even though the battery wouldn't even light up the dash, it tested OK and was recharged so it was ready to go! That was a surprise to me but not as much as when the service writer showed me the test strip from the battery tester. It showed the battery was an AGM so I said, "Oh, its an AGM battery" to which she replied, "No, its a Ford battery".

In addition, I asked about the missing "neutral release cable" and was told the technician said "that it was a bear to install" so it wasn't done. I guess the techs get to choose their jobs based on the difficulty. Cool!

At least I was able to get the oil and filter changed. I see that Motorcraft 0W-20 is now 7.83 per quart! They asked if I wanted the cabin air filter changed? I said no when she quoted 2 hours of labor for that 5 minute job I can do myself.

An interesting day.

BONUS! I just went to use the Mav for the first time after coming back from service and when I opened the door, the cab lights and dash came on and immediately went off! The truck started and ran but I'm concerned since it is doing this on a "tested good, recharged" battery, I still have problems. The FordPass app isn't showing "sleep mode" yet but it probably will soon.

I called the dealer and they said to bring it back in and they will run the 2 hour tests on it again! I'm really not feeling good about all of this. Thoughts?

That's what the SSM says to do on the battery drain issue.

Reset truck by disconnect. That may have reset whatever module did the infrequent drain. Until the next exact scenario that causes it. If a bad module, may not have to wait for long!

Recharge battery.

Test battery to see if the drain harmed it enough. I'm guessing their level to determine harmed is pretty low - sounds like below 40% from other reports. 2 hr test - hmmm, instructions don't say how long it is, surprised that long though. If they tested to an AGM spec and it passed - that should be better I'd imagine. Sad they didn't pick the right battery though.

Hoping a top off charge after the test if it really drains it for 2 hrs.
BMS reset.

After a charge it really should have an 8 hr sleep with doors locked - I'm betting that doesn't happen there, but manual says BMS relearn should be done after new battery or recharged battery.

If those last 2 steps weren't done - the battery saver effects you are getting could be based on old saved readings.
Hopefully their work order spells things out showing they did them, or you do the final at least.

Where is this neutral release cable?

Had your exact problems. Decided to bite the bullet bought an AC Delco battery that fits exactly under the seat that was a year ago not a single problem again just get an AGM battery and stop arguing with yourself and the dealer. If you wanna get tricky, you can completely drain that Ford Motorcraft battery slip it back in take it to the dealer and maybe I’ll give you another battery for you later.

Mine IS an AGM battery so I don't think "draining" it is possible. Actually, this isn't something I would do but thanks for the idea.

Unless your battery was previously replaced, it probably is not an AGM. I suggest you take the cover off & verify (unless you have already done so).
I certainly would not believe your dealer.

Never mentioned replacing the battery before so I was assuming it was the factory battery. None of the Ford batteries are AGM. Nothing from the factory comes with an AGM battery from Ford on any model Maverick the Delco battery has almost twice the CCA and it’ll never mess with the Ford software like the motorcraft nonsense does

If you had an AGM battery, there’s no way it could’ve been a Motorcraft product. You can’t find them. It was probably a dealer replacement because he couldn’t get the car to start bunch of failed on dealers lots before they even sold. I’ve talked to my dealer about this extensively Likely in fact, I’m almost impossible. It’s a factory served AGM battery.

Most the EB's did have AGM.
Except the ones in the recall for bad FLA.
