Please forgive this novice question, but the Owner’s Manual was vague and not helpful. On the windshield wiper stalk, I understand that raising or lowering the stalk itself controls the speed of the wipers. I also understand that pushing the lever itself toward me, activates the windshield wiper system. However, I still don't understand the purpose of the little dial that lives within the lever itself. (pictured) Please enlighten me as to the purpose of this movable dial. thanx steve

also note it's a 2 sided paddle (protrudes on the back side of the stalk)

Are you saying that the little dial sets the speed of the intermittent wipers and only works with the stalk in the intermittent position? This would make sense, although it seems superfluous to me.
My old vintage jalopies only have high and low speeds, and that's only when they're working! .Which is intermittently. Actually, when the weather is inclement, I wouldn't even think of driving those old buggies. s

Yes, what you said is correct. If you "turn on the wipers", they might wipe every what.....30 seconds? If you use that little dial thing, you can decrease the delay between wipes. Similar to if you pushed the stalk up one notch higher for the "I am driving in a hurricane" setting.

Exactly.

Turn the dial upward (toward the multiple raindrops icon) if you need the blades to wipe more frequently. Turn the dial downward (toward the single raindrop icon), to decrease the frequency.

Seems so obvious now, but as noted, the owner's manual is worthless on this point. Thanks everyone for your help. Steve.

Just in case missed - there is also a super intermittent mode too - when you decide for a single wipe. And a dash setting to make a single pull normally for washer fluid to do that same single wipe.
Now the auto-headlights don't work with that "mode".

Another way to think of nubbin on dial - just as the stalk going Up increases frequency, so also that nubbin going up.

Push the lever up or down to operate the windshield wipers.
For vehicles with auto lamps, the headlamps turn on when the windshield wipers operate.

I've had my Maverick only a few weeks and the protrusion really confused me. I just happened to notice one night driving home and could not for the life of me figure out what was going on until the next day after the sun came up.
