3. It's GREAT for filling up the cab with dirt and leaves from the bed, as the wind from driving will circle back around and blow everything lightweight and loose back into the cab. So, if you have leaves in your bad, leave the window up.
Love having a rear window, but man this happens all the time.
[/QUOTE]

This would also be the reason for a rear window defroster. The airflow while driving blows the snow in the bed back up onto the rear window

Yep. I mean, why do windows roll down at all? The drive-through businesses prefer it, but if you have a vehicle with climate control, there is no practical reason. Sometimes, the reason isn't practical. It just works.
Paying for tolls and parking are a couple more reasons to have windows that roll down. Police prefer you roll down your window at traffic stops. It's easier to flip the bird. And for those few who drive into lakes it can be life saving.

Tolls can be done electronically. Even the police thing probably should be done electronically nowadays. The lake thing is a good point but I keep an emergency hammer in my car for that reason.

I'm not arguing against windows. I'm just saying we adapted to their existence despite their original requirement no longer existing.

How do you figure the police "thing" can be done electronically? When you are stopped you have to be physically identified. That's why there are photos on drivers licenses. Can't do that electronically.
As far as emergency hammer goes an automatic punch works faster less effort and takes up less room in the console.

I don't have time to go into it, but the police already knows whose car it is. Car and phone manufacturers just need to make a way to transfer information to the police who is driving. Apple was already trying to include drivers licenses in their wallet app. All you need is a way for the police to talk through the car's existing audio system and the only thing physically required is looking through the window to verify the driver.

It can be done. It would take effort to pull off, but it can be done.

Some tolls must be paid by cash or credit card. How do you handle a police stop electronically? LOL. I'd rather roll the window down than be hit with broken glass.

Sadly it’s most often used to pass jumper cable to the hybrid 12v battery. Electric windows can’t be lowered without working 12v.
Or… you could just open the door and pass the jumper cables through… (And to quote Bill Engvall: “Here’s your sign…”)

Yep nothing attracted more attention then a open truck door for hours on a high traffic road.
Take your sign back…..

Good one. But around these parts, it only takes 2-3 minutes to jump start a car, so “back to you…” 🤣

My jump is via a battery charger with jump function. Other cars available so, just abandoned the worthless truck on a charger and go with my well aged Prius.

One practical reason: ventilation with the doors closed while the vehicle is off.

Another: even with the modern climate system, sometimes it's helpful to at least crack the windows while driving to clear various smells, etc.

Dont forget that dudes need the drivers window down so you can hang your guns out to get the chicks! Survival of the species and all.
