I installed some new door speakers in my XL and they sound blown. If I brace myself against the door they sound better, so I think it's vibration.

Any of you run into similar issues? I have no experience with Dynamat. Don't want to buy it and install unless it will help on the Maverick.

Interested in your thoughts. Thanks!

I have no experience with speakers as I am only in my vehicles when I want to go somewhere and do not use radio or speakers while in motion. I even stop and roll window down at RR Tracks. I would expect that your speakers are making the inside door plastic vibrate. Maybe you need two or more layers of sound absorbent on the hidden side of all plastic at least one on metal.

Would appreciate anyone's feedback who has experience with aftermarket speakers and/or sound deadening material, such as Dynamat, in the front doors of the Maverick. Thanks again.

Yes, I did. Dynamat threads I found were in reference to eliminating road noise.

Anyone have anything helpful? So far just comments from the peanut gallery.

I'll keep watching the thread in case any of the speaker folks chime in. Have a good night.

Speaking of peanuts! This guy on YouTube talks about vibrations in the door.

His fix was some foam packing peanuts to stop parts of the door from rattling. Been meaning to give it a try on mine as I get some decent rattling at higher volumes with my aftermarket speakers.

Did you add any foam all around under the speaker bezel where it contacts the door or mounting adapter? If you used an adapter, did you add foam under that, too?

I found that aftermarket speakers, with their enhanced bass, do rattle the doors. Since I had installed a subwoofer as well and didn't want to deal with adding dynamat to my doors, I dropped the bass on the head unit to 0 (which doesn't completeley eliminate it anyways), set the crossover knob on my sub to the highest frequency and just adjusted the sub's gain knob to taste. Now I can max the radio and have no rattle 9/10 times.

How did you install it? Did you use spacers? You can make the stock speakers into spacers if you need to. Use foam tape around the opening and to the spacers. Confirm both speakers are wired same polarity.

I used a mounting adapter, but didn't add foam between the adapter and the door. I didn't use foam around under the speaker bezel where it contacts the mounting adapter either. I need to look into getting some foam. Where did you get your foam?

I like the sub idea too, but for now I'm pretty bent on getting rid of the rattle in the door.

I used adapter spacers from Crutchfield. I didn't use any foam tape at all. This could be where most of my problem lies, I'm thinking. Another member mentioned the foam too.

For wiring I used a harness-style adapter.

I used self-sticking weather-sealing foam I got at home depot, probably was even this particular product.

Making an airtight seal between the door and the adapter, and between the speaker and the adapter, will likely help, though as I mentioned you'll probably need to tame the base coming from the door speakers as well.

It could be, but I installed my speakers with only adapter rings and they didn't vibrate all that bad. Later, I did go back and add a bunch of deadener which reduced the resonance a lot.

Certainly never sounded blown. Were you just trying to describe it any way you could? Blown speakers will make horrible scratchy noises on almost all output whereas resonance tends to be certain frequencies so you might have some music that you don't hear it at all.

If you hear something nearly constantly and it's not scratchy, then you probably do have an issue with the physical installation. It should be possible to secure everything well without using foam tape.

I liked the suggestion to turn down the bass also. Just checking, but you don't have the bass maxed on the head unit right? When you turn it down and play music at the same volume does it vibrate less?

Describing the speakers as sounding blown was a poor description on my part. It's just vibratory. The vibration is less when the volume is turned down and when I dial down the bass on the factory equalizer.

I'm going to go all in on reducing resonance/vibration and sound deadening. I watched a YouTube video and plan to replicate what he did.

I'm ordering some butyl tape/putty, resonance dampening aluminum mat, and closed cell foam mat. It will probably be an all day project to get the two doors done, but I think it'll be worth it to get the most from my speakers. I don't want to dial my bass down or listen to the tunes on low volume, so I think I'll have to suck it up and do some proper prep work to get clean sound from the speakers.

Here's the video I referenced, for those who are curious about what I plan to do:

Might be a while, but I will report back. I appreciate everyone here at the club.

I've been working on eliminating vibration from the doors. Pretty labor intensive! I still need to remove the window actuator panel, to get to the actual door from the inside.

I put everything back together to take a break, and after listening to some music I can say there is a difference, especially when toggling from driver side speaker to passenger side.

After I finish the driver door I'll do the passenger, and then we'll have to see how I feel about doing the other doors. I have a feeling I'll be done for a while! Lot of work!

I'd put a lot more on the door panel especially near the mid. Here's mine.
