Didn't take pix. But I didn't die. Or break anything. They sound a bit better and don't distort as much at higher volumes as the stock ones. Not super high end but my hearing isn't good enough anymore for it to matter.
Getting the door panel off could have been worse. Putting it back was much worse than taking it off. Had a hard time getting everything lined up then I figured out that the panel had to overlap a slotted thing that runs next to the window slot. It doesn't go in the slot it goes over it.
Everything came from amazon. Amazon links don't seem to render correctly on this site so just copy paste the description on amazon since that's where I copied it from.
PIONEER TS-A1670F 3-Way 320 Watt A-Series Coaxial Car Speakers
I used these connectors and the mounting rings that came with the speakers:
Metra Electronics 72-5602 4-Way Speaker Harness Connector for Ford & Mazda Vehicles, Multi Color
I just ran the wires between the ring and the door and didn't bother cutting a notch in the rings. Lazy but effective.
You will need a 7mm and 8mm socket along with a spludger and a phillips screwdriver to mount the speaker on the ring. I found that a small thin knife blade (small one on a swiss army knife) worked best to pop the window control switch panel off. Wiggle it under the end facing the back of the truck. After you remove all 5 screws use the spludger under the bottom edge - there is a little gap that is apparently there for that purpose. Then just get your fingers under and work them around popping out the clips. Be careful with the little triangular piece of trim above the door panel in front. It just pops off but one clip is different than the rest and it has a rubber fitting that can pull out. Almost broke that one.
