Well the new update added or removed a feature depending on how you look at it.

If you have your Maverick in reverse, voice commands are disabled. Once the vehicle is in Park or Drive, they are re-enabled. Android Auto voice commands, even 'OK Google' would not activate via the infotainment, only the phone & no audio.

Not sure if it's the same with Apple CarPlay or regular voice commands via Bluetooth, will test the latter.

Thanks for the follow up. I always find it frustrating when products have an update but there is no documentation to let me know what changed.

I thought that was already the case?

Was working for me before, have a garage controller that allowed me to use GAssist to do so. Was handy when backing out of the garage.

However, not sure if it's because of an update to the infotainment, Android OS, or Android Auto.

Since I upgraded last week my radio has developed a buzz or hum, its mainly noticeable when people are talking with no music in the background like with a podcast. It is driving me crazy. It was fine, I upgraded it after work and noticed it immediately the next morning when I was making my commute. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is there a way to downgrade the head unit software?

I have been using AA in my Maverick for about 90 days. I have a lariat lux so this is sync3.

I have noticed that it takes a good minute or two for AA to start and if you put the vehicle in reverse before that happens, it won't start and the infotainment will default to whatever non-AA source you were last using.

Interestingly, if you let AA start and then select reverse, your music will play but you cannot do anything else once reverse is engaged. You can't get the assistant and I'm pretty sure you can't even change tracks. The volume knob is all the responds.

Hi there. This radio concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Maverick. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

Sure, when I get home from work I will send you that information.

I'm still really confused about this software update. It appears I have a (somewhat) older version, G1.8.0.1_RC15_R21461a, and no matter how many times I check for updates, I don't get one. Also, when I check online, it says NOT AVAILABLE ON THIS VEHICLE. I have an XLT. Does that make a difference? For anyone who has this update, is it worth worrying about?

Kinda odd.. I have an XLT also... mine is the 2.0 EB... I wouldn't think that would matter.

My XLT downloaded the update but hasn’t showed up as installed yet. I’m fairly sure it downloaded because it showed it as available the first time I checked but now it doesn’t show it as available. I read that it sometimes takes several start up cycles to fully install so I’m not concerned about it.

I updated mine a couple of days ago and it took some time for the update to show on the screen. I let it sit over night then when I started it up the next day to go to the store it was updated to the current version.

Now I'm not exactly sure what the update is for but it is current.

XL & XLT updates are not available online, only via WiFi.

XL & XLT has an ACM module that can be updated via WiFi, USB not enabled, I believe Ford can update it via software, but it's a pain. Updates for the Maverick are not publicly available online as far as I know.

Forscan does enable you to update the ACM via file, but, it seems to only apply for the EU Focus & Transit.

Lariat has an APIM module which has SYNC 3. Can be updated via WiFi, thumb drive, and via Ford.

If you're having problems finding updates, XL & XLT only:
  1. Force a Soft Reset: Hold both the Fast Forward & Power till it resets.
  2. Connect to your WiFi. Try your best to connect to the one with the best signal first.
  3. Check for updates. Do this at least 3-4 times.
  4. Skip to Step 5, if it updates.
    1. If no update is found, go back to Step One and try a different WiFi network. For me, the best solution was to use my Mobile Hotspot. The infotainment system has a bad habit of switching to the previous network when you try connecting to another one.
  5. Once it starts downloading. Stay in the vehicle for 10-15 mins and wait for the update to complete, may take longer depending on your download speeds. It sucks, but, it's better than coming back 30-40 mins later finding out it stalled or the vehicle shutoff.
  6. When it installs, it will take 5-8 mins. When complete the current version will be the same as before. At this step, you are fine to turn the vehicle off. It should be updated in the morning, or after a few ignition cycles.

I connected to my wifi and finally got the update (had to check two or three times). But it was a weak signal and after 10 minutes it was still showing 0% downloaded. Tried using my phone as a hotspot, and that did it. Took a long time to download, but it finally got it all. As mentioned, after installation it wasn't showing up. Went out to dinner, and an hour or so later, it was there. Thanks to all for the info and suggestions.

This is a really useful guide so thanks for taking the time to post.

Only thing I would add, from my experience is that, if someone can’t get it to update no matter what Wi-Fi network they try, it might be that there is too much Wi-Fi interference in the surrounding area…

I tried three different wireless networks, including temporarily install a mesh hotspot in my truck, and nothing worked. Then, I took my kid to a park out in the boonies, connected to the 5G hotspot I had previously already tried and tried to update. Free from a great deal of surrounding interference, it updated in minutes, after several days of trying. This is anecdotal but it might be worth trying for those who continue to have trouble.
