Damn, I have a 24, guess I know what I can expect!
A mistaken email that doesn't apply in your case.

At least an email saying your Ford Points was at 10K, and it was true - would be nicer.

People seem to get excited about updates. I have really only ever seen a few updates that fundamentally fixed or changed my user experience in a way that made me thankful for the updates. It would be nice if they were pushing updates that actually improve things, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Then if they do push something you think might be nice it is only available if you subscribe to premium connectivity... So the new has worn off of updates for me.... yes I am that old, turn down your music, and get off my lawn!

I just got the email about it today, and I have a '24.
Why is Ford sending emails to those who are don't have SYNC4 and not sending emails to those with SYNC4? I thought SYNC4 is required for OTA updates...

Exactly. If they can't even get that right I don't have much faith in any updates.

With Fords history on the matter of updates/recall patches, I would let the pot simmer for a long time and let the bugs get worked out imo. Didn't work out well for a lot of the GM folks based on a google search:

AI Overview

Yes, there have been reports of GM vehicles being "bricked" or rendered inoperable by over-the-air (OTA) software updates. This has led to significant issues for owners, requiring dealership visits and, in some cases, vehicle repair.

Elaboration:
  • Bricked Vehicles:
When a vehicle's software is corrupted or fails to install properly during an OTA update, it can prevent the car from starting or functioning. This is colloquially referred to as "bricking" the vehicle.

  • Global B Platform Issues:
A significant number of vehicles, particularly those on the Global B platform (like Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Cadillac Lyriq), have experienced issues with OTA updates.

  • GM's Response:
In response to these issues, GM is reportedly revamping its OTA update procedures.

  • Dealer Assistance:
GM dealers are instructed to assist customers with OTA-related issues, including resetting the update process and clearing error messages.

  • Potential Solutions:
Some owners have reported success by ensuring the vehicle's battery is fully charged and by attempting the update with the vehicle's antenna in a better position, such as outside a garage.

  • Owner Concerns:
Many GM EV owners are concerned about the lack of communication from GM regarding these issues and the overall lack of software updates.

  • Impact on OTA Updates:
The issues with GM's OTA updates have raised concerns about the reliability and safety of this technology for vehicles.

  • Future of OTA Updates:
GM's response and the reported issues suggest that the company is actively working to improve the OTA update process.
I've turned it off for now. Not interested in being a beta tester for this on the 2025's.

I am aware of that. I believe Ford was quoting $2,000 for those who wanted to switch out to SYNC4.
You can get a Sync 4 Apim for $150 or less if you look online and are somewhat handy.
The larger screen can be bought for around $225 if that is wanted as well.

I'll stick with my Sync 3. I drove a 2025 Bronco Sport loaner for a month and nothing special/new that I noticed.
Also don't want them having the ability to update/screw up my software remotely.

That is not how it works. Ford does not "beta test" to end users. If you would have read my previous posts you would already know that Ford has an EAP or early access program where owners voluntarily sign up for receiving updates ahead of time to test them out and see if they are ready to go out to all vehicles.

You can learn more about the EAP here. https://www.earlyaccess.ford.com/

1. They obviously don't send all the emails out at the same time.
2. I have no idea why they sent it to me. Maybe if I try to take them up on the offer I'll find out.

I did read the whole thread and that's certainly good to hear. Guess in my mind that is still alpha testing and when the first people on the forum start getting updates successfully - then the beta test is over.

Even though I have a cousin that is fairly high up in Ford I have not owned one since the '90s so don't have a feel for reliability or customer support yet. I was very disappointed with customer support for RAM vans by Stellantis and don't plan on ever buying another Mopar so hope my experience with Ford is better.

Are we talking about this? Because this has been a feature since day one?

No we are talking about the 2025 Mavericks ability to now receive OTA updates.

For all you know the beta testing has already began. EAP participants are under a strict NDA.
