I have a 2022 XLT 2.0 EB FX4/4k Tow. I'm at about 39k miles now. While I've had some issues/glitches/etc... nothing too bad. However today I was told that my rear differential went bad and they are ordering the parts for it. They said hopefully in 2-3 weeks the parts will arrive and then they would schedule the repair.

Right around 36k miles, I heard a thumping noise sometimes. Initially I thought it was somethin in the bed, I pulled out a ladder I had in there, but it still persisted, then I thought my bed divider was wiggling, so I took that out and it persisted. Sometimes I would now hear a scraping sound so I finally called for a service appointment but that was several weeks out and it consistently got worse. In addition to the thump, you can hear it grind if I go from a dead stop, or if I accelerate when going around a corner.

I'll update when it is finally repaired and see what they put on the service ticket!

Covered under warranty?
They said since it is powertrain, it should be covered under warranty. But until they complete the repair and I see the Zero invoice, I will be skeptical. They initially said it was a $190 charge to diagnose and could take 24-48 hours!

This is one of those posts that makes me think getting a warranty is a good idea before I can't buy one for my 23 Hybrid.

I would have bought one of the discount ESPs, but we can’t in Florida!

Not sure what you mean? My FL dealer did a hard sell on me for an extended warranty which I did not buy. Does that mean I can’t get one now (2500 miles)?

FL and CA state law requires dealers to be licensed with the state and follow state regulations when selling extended warranties in their state. Granger Ford (Iowa), Flood (RI), Zeigler (MI), etc all are legit Ford dealers dealers outside those states which sell discounted legit Ford Protect ESPs online, but to sell in those states, they would need to still follow those regulations.

The (unofficial) workaround is to buy an ESP from one of those dealers but use an address in another state. Good examples would be if you have relatives in an eligible state. You'd still use your billing address, of course.

You do not have to buy an ESP when you buy the vehicle, you can buy it later. An ESP can be purchased at any time under the 3 year/36,000 mi bumper to bumper warranty. Technically there may be a grace period up to 41,000 mi/41 months.

Pricing does go up a bit after 12 months/12,000 miles, as well as annual price increases.

TLDR: You can buy it up to 36 months/36,000 miles (maybe a bit longer). ESP starts on in-service date and 0 miles no matter when you buy it. Sooner you buy, the less you pay. Can buy from discount online dealers but need to supply an address outside CA/FL.

Had an annoying occurrence today as well. was at a stop light with my left arm/hand resting down by the window bottoms. Felt something sharp and realized the silver lining on the right rear window switch was peeling. WTF? Annoying quality issue.

jsus has a good explanation of what it's like down here. In addition to the non-limited dealer fees and many other charges we get hit with down here. And it's also getting worse with the recently passed (at least I think it was) that doesn't allow manufacturers to impose restrictions on dealers from adding markups and such.

Agreed. Dealers get away with a lot in here and for sure have a sweet deal going on.

Curious if you tow with your maverick, and if so how often and how much you are towing?
