I had the same issue with my Lincoln Mark LT. What would really frustrate me is I would go through a car wash and it would ooze out dirt and mildew and muck for hours out of the bottom of the taillights. I haven't had much issue with my Maverick yet. But I have washed once or twice a week since I picked it up and have kept it very clean.

Guess I gotta shop for mudflaps. Already planning on the extra cubby.
Another strand is dedicated to mudflaps. Lots of support for rokblokz. $150ish but large enough to cover the opening in the wheel well.

Yeah amazon sells kits for twenty bucks. One fifty for mudflaps is insane.

My understanding is that the rokbloks are larger than the Ford OEM flaps and are pre drilled to exactly fit the Maverick. The generic ones will work, but you'd have to measure and cut them on your own. Also, there is some question about whether or not the Ford ones are large enough to cover the exposed hole on the driver's side.

The Maverick is all about DIY, but I think I'd rather avoid measuring and cutting mud flaps. Others I've seen can run upwards of $350, so $150 doesn't sound terrible... To each their own!

I drive on a hundred miles of unimproved dirt roads every week, dust collects under the plastic cladding on the bedside. I hate to see my new truck dirty so I have been washing it weekly ... oh, oh, mud flows down the fendersides for a couple of days after each wash.
I guess I'll have to pull the plastic trim off and caulk all the holes closed.
I was warned not to buy a first year vehicle. Pay attention Ford - fix all of these new model oversights.

I have been on many muddy job sites recently, and to add insult I got trapped twice behind a brine spray truck, so my Mav was in need of a good wash.

I have a 6-foot extending wash wand with an adjustable head i use to spray under body wheel wells etc., and I pay close attention to the left rear quarter as it is open to the road below.

Today i could not get the water to run clear, so after rinsing the area for 20 minutes I decided to just pull the taillight and flush the area from above. The area was packed with mud, small rocks, and briny crud. Only took a minute to wash it out from above.

Folks in areas with actual winter weather may want to pull that drivers taillight and get that rear quarter cleaned out., and keep a close eye on it.

@Ford Motor Company needs to provide some protection here, a good part of what is cast off from the tire winds up slobbered onto the taillight and up inside that panel. Looks like an awesome recipe for corrosion sooner rather than later.

If you haven't, I encourage you to pull that taillight, less than a minute, and check it out.

Passenger side is rarely dirty at all as it is protected from the wheel well by the storage cubby - so I believe I will add another storage cubby to the drivers side soon.
Take a closer look on the right side, you will find that what you are looking at is actually a cover. The storage cubby is above this cover. I think that Ford needs to come up with a cover for the left side also. Problem is the muffler in this area that would melt a cover like the cover on the right. Mud, water, road gunk can get caught in this area, coating electricals. Also my cat likes to get in area and play, I have to watch very carefully that I know where she is before moving truck.
Its the only area that an animal can readily get into, there are covers all over the rest of truck bottom, on the FX package.

Mud flaps will NOT keep crud from getting up in this area. I have mud flaps only a couple inches off ground and crud still gets in. I worry because of all the electronics, switch for bed, 120v outlet, tail lights. Lariat lux. Ford needs to address this problem and provide a solution/recall for fixing. Maybe a metal cover for the left side, like the plastic cover on the right side.

Thank you. Just a touch of sanity for the 19.9K truck please
My take is most automotive accessories are priced for when people still have stars in their eyes about getting a new vehicle. Once that wears off and you think with your logic instead of emotion $150 mud flaps don't seem worth it.

You are correct, that is in fact a separate cover below the cubby. I have been looking at universal heat shields, both hard and fabric style, to block this area off from spray. Either will take any heat from the exhaust. Whatever solution I land on my goal is not to attempt to seal the area off completely, rather just to deflect spray. Here is an example:
Summit shield

Can you add a storage cubby to the drivers side? Is it a bolt-in or do you have to cut it in? Thanks. Oh, part numbers would be great too if someone has them!

Did you or anyone ever come up with a simple solution to this yet? Just got my Mav last night and I replaced the reverse lights with LEDs today and there was mud sprayed all over behind the drivers side taillight. Remembered reading about it on this post immediately.
