I installed a 1 1/2" HRG leveling kit on my "22 hybrid... love the look and ride, but be aware that rapid acceleration unloads the front suspension and causes lack of traction. Front drive Ecobost vehicle would also react this way. The stock nose-down stance keeps more weight on the drive...
I have changed one flat tire and rotated all five twice... so I can speak from experience when I say "whatever time it took to get the spare out - double that for estimating how long it takes to get the dam# thing back on the rack!!!"
Nope, no heat issues. Park this truck next to stock a stock one, and you will see that areas of the radiator exposed is the same on both vehicles. The stock radiator shutters still function as normal (Ford removed portions of the shutter on a recall) The hybrid has an electric heater plumbed...
You bring up some very good points. In most situations the approach angle was about the same as stock; as the lower part of this bumper is slanted, however the bumper does stick out, so extreme approach angles such as encountered in rock crawling are out....but hey, this is fwd hybrid - used...
HERE'S PART TWO: FINISHING IT UP
When mounted on a Jeep the bumper is straight across. This picture shows the pieces added to flare the bumper. Notice the "ropey" used to blend in with the welds on the $100 e-bay bumper. I found a beeline paint at HomeDepot which perfectly matched the bumper...
No nut, the bolt sticks through a 1" hole drilled in the bottom plate - welded in place where it pokes into the transport hold down hole in crossmember. Grind the threads down and the bolt is tight in hole - takes up thrust forces 360 degrees, you can push or pull bumper with no strain on rest...
Yep, the scary welds are mine. I tacked things together with my stick welder, which I hadn't used in 20 years...then I took it over to a neighbor where he mig welded everything both sides.
Right off, let me address the obvious question: "why would you put a winch on a hybrid? "
...because it will get stuck off road more than a 4wd ecobost. 98% of my driving is on pavement ,so I bought a hybrid ,but I have modified to go off pavement. I found a mid-90's Jeep bumper on e-bay for...
I had the same questions I used these two witching holes as the main attaching points for my winch bumper...turned down 1" bolts to snuggly fit holes, welded these to plates which sandwich this portion of chassis.
Bumper itself is a modified jeep bumper for a 90's style jeep (widely available...
Thanks for all your replies.
Good idea about the tennis ball. I have hung one up and now drive forward into the garage. It stops me exactly five inches away from the wall every time.
Also I took the advice about reporting the accident to NHTSA
I always back into my garage because my Maverick is only about 10 inches shorter than the garage,, so I use the camera to stop about 4 inches short of the wall. Today I was backing my '22 hybrid XL into my garage... I hit the wall. The camera showed that I was still about six feet from the...
Winner, winner, chicken dinner. .... I was waiting for someone to mention this. Ford wants to sell this truck, even needs to sell these trucks. Phasing out their line of passenger vehicles hurt their CAFE fleet MPG average. A loss leader high MPG truck was necessary to stay in business.
Ya, I agree. Looks like Toyota owns the $60K tiny truck segment It's not a competitor of Maverick. It's hybrid models are engineered for power, not economy.
Yea, you get a full size rim mounted with an undersized cheap tire. furthermore, Ford service refuses to rotate five tires. ... and the Ford TPSI will not work with five tires.
I replaced the cheap passenger tires a week after taking delivery of my new Maverick. Traded them for five...
I had a key cut for my XL, thinking that I could leave the key in the ignition permanently.... and the fob in my pocket . Didn't work , the new key failed to start the truck, regardless of how close to the ignition switch the fob
was held.
Also, I should warn you, the Mav key is VERY...
Yes. I have a full set of 5 Wild Peak 225 X 65R 1 7 AT 3's. Spare fits fine
However , Ford will only give you 4 pressure sensors so if a sensor mounted tire
Is on the rack, you get a sensor error warning light and chime.
I had this same thing happen to my 2 week old XL hybrid. I fixed it by backing off the sensitivity of the accident avoidance system . Turns out that when you start climbing up a steep hill, the Mav apples the brakes because it senses that you are about to run into the hill ahead. The...
